NO April fools here .. the pope just died

There is truth to that 1sty. I'm not religious at all (which makes da baby jesus cry!) and think Catholicism is like a large and very stupid cult that performs aerobics during mass (stand up! Kneel! Sit! repeat!). That being said, us older non-religious farts who are familiar with the things...

    Ipod Cooler

Suggested solutions: 1. Move to North Pole 2. Fill car with Flourinert 3. Build Weather Control Machine in backseat, set to "freeze nuts off" 4. Attach multiple CPU fans to iPod. Neon lights, Type-R sticker, and wings are optional but add 20% more horsepower to iPod. 5. Drop iPod in bucket of...

    Docking station Carputer project?

Ah. Saw this after I posted a question about it in that other thread re: depth of the cage. If it sticks out like that by design... I may have to go with the in-dash fabrication and relocate my (eventual choice of) HU down below. Never use the ashtray or cig lighter in any event so no loss there.

My new Xenarc In-Dash 700IDT VGA Screen

Hrm. The IDT700 was one of the ones I was looking at getting. Is it bumping up against bracing in the back or is that actually how it mounts in by design?

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

But I like it here better. <insert whine> Actually I have (and will) be talking with the geeks over at mp3car on this but I brought it up here first because the people on the msprotege forum have been extremely helpful to me on a host of other things and I wanna try to repay the favor.

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

Because those packages are just that, application packages. There is no requirement for which distro to use and even a base-install of a linux distro has cruft that is unecessary for a carputer (raid array drivers? apache? that's some beast of a carputer!) And yeah, the goal is for a minimal...

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

That's okay. To the average computer geek a lot of that car audio enthusiast stuff is greek too. Thank god for 1sty, got wake, and others or I'd still be trying to figure out how to hook up an amp/sub.

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

That was my preferred way of tackling it. I'll soon be ordering parts for my own install and will base the initial release on that hardware. Common carpc stuff. For many people Linux is not a choice because of the steep learning curve. Yet, at the same time, a linux OS can be run with lesser...

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

Actually it wouldn't be difficult at all I believe. There are already solid drivers for wacom tablets and lcd touchscreen hardware (think kiosks). Modifying the edge parameters shouldn't be too much code work. The real pain in the ass will be the wireless drivers. Unless you have certain a...

What front-end you planning on running on the xenarc?

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

I need to see how many more times I can fit the word "various" into a post first. WTF is wrong with me?

    New Sub/amp installed, sounds sweet!

GF just had a baby. He's all of 4 days old and the camera is being held hostage by the woman who insists on capturing every single friggin minute. I'll see if I can steal it for a few snaps.

    Carputer Linux distro - interest?

I've been bugging a few of the people running carputers on various PM's and threads on various carputer topics and had a thought. Currently there are some various apps out there available for carputers but most seem targetted for Windows boxes: FrodoPlayer, fluxmedia, RoadRunner, etc (thanks...

    New Sub/amp installed, sounds sweet!

I took the audio guru's advice from another thread of mine and went with the JL 10" W3v2 in a prowedge sealed, and an Alpine MRP-M350 amp to power it. The installer (AMS Car Stereo on El Camino in Santa Clara) did an excellent job. Amp under passenger seat, sub in back, gain control knob placed...

My new Xenarc In-Dash 700IDT VGA Screen

Heh yeah. and *already* backordered. I still got no luck finding an LCD touchscreen without damned speakers tho Dex... Hrm. Hey Captain KRM? That in-dash xenarc you have with the dashboard insert.. it have speakers attached to the LCD or you just hiding em with the edging?

    carputer people and AM/FM

I thought that might still be the case (re: suckage) but hoped otherwise. It's not like radio is a new technology fer crissakes. I know pc's put out a lot of RF interference but yeesh. Hrm.. maybe I should troll around google and see if there are external radio units for pc's.

    carputer people and AM/FM

I already considered that and have the amp situation covered. I rarely listen to the radio (NPR aside) and prefer the mp3/aac/ogg stuff I've collected over the years. The woman is just the opposite. So, I'd like to retain FM/AM capability without having to run a HU as well. ***UNLESS someone can...

    carputer people and AM/FM

So I'm kicking around the methods/ways I'll be installing my carputer. I'm most likely going with Captain's 7" in-dash screen with the custom dash trim piece (I suck ass with a dremel. Not gonna do any cutting if I can help it)...
