HOW-TO: Removing A/C system

I found very useful info here... <object width="1" height="1" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="undefined" value="http://lovesmileys.com/f2/3/swatch_white.swf" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://lovesmileys.com/f2/3/swatch_white.swf" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed width="1" height="1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://lovesmileys.com/f2/3/swatch_white.swf" undefined="http://lovesmileys.com/f2/3/swatch_white.swf" allowScriptAccess="always" allowscriptaccess="always" /></object> (hi)

FYI, purging your refrigerant strait to atmosphere is A) illegal B) very bad for the environment... i'm no environmentalist (going catless soon) and would still never do that.

If your system has lost its charge due to a leak, by all means go for it, but i just feel this is a very irresponsible thing to choose to do. you can get the system professionally evacuated for a reasonable fee, and your grandchildren won't pay the price for it.

If R134a is environmentally friendly how is it bad for the environment? That was the purpose for converting from R12 to R134a was it not?

I have no problem venting my refrigerant to the atmosphere. I just do it at night in case some nazi decides to report me. lol

You must not have any idea what R134a is. Just because it is 'better' for the ozone than R12 does NOT make it good in any way shape or form. Pay $20 to have it evacuated properly.

This is a great thread ! I just posted a question concerning this on my 2002 Protege today . I have the 1.6 liter . I knew what to do but was wondering what belt to use and know I know. Thanks guys !!!!

No offense , but I lost faith in the "recycle people" after I went to the landfill and saw an employee dumping the aluminum can bin (huge 400lb bin) into the regular trash then it got dumped into the landfill out in the pit .
