Hatchkitten's Protege5 Thread!

Any suggestions on an intake? I'm not looking to spend too much, and I don't need anything crazy either. My head just begins to hurt when i look into them and i get confused between what will or won't work with my car. So any ideas would be much appreciated wheelman.

p5 is coming along nicely!! for intakes, there is INJEN, AEM,Weapon R and a few others out there. Most choose INJEN or AEM. looking forward to more progress on the p5. Good work so far

Buy a decent intake (under $80 usually) off of ebay and put a good filter on it. Pipe is pipe.

I got my AEM on sale at a local performance store. I would recomend it but it is pricey. I would suggest going with a short ram intake cause you live in NY and with all the salt on the road in the winter the CAI will get super dirty being down by the road. But azuelke is right if your not looking to spend too much, my friend just picked up a $30 dollar intake and is real happy with it. The brand was Insys, just type in "protege intake" on ebay and you'll find them, here is a link to the website... http://www.insysusa.com/ Good luck and keep us posted.

It's pretty damn close to the OEM orange of our cars, I love that.
I smile a little bit more getting in and out of my car now. lol

The insys site quotes its SRI at $209 (boom01)

Went to Ebay and Amazon. Found a few but the piping looks different from pipe to pipe...uhg

Opinions? Much appreciated.

Those all seem too super generic if you ask me. ProjectBlack bought https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned) one, but had issues with it rubbing. I'm sure theres an easy work around though.

Yeah thats the one we got for my friend, he hasn't installed it yet so I can't comment on the fit, but like you said there is probably an easy way around it. I have an auto (unfortunately) but when I bought my AEM I got the manual (the auto and manual are different) intake and cut it so that the filter would sit in behind my headlight. I don't really think it sucks cooler air from being moved away from the engine more, but it can't really hurt and I think it looks 10 times better. :p

Ok SO! I ended up buying the Insys SRI off Ebay on Monday. The same one in your link, in red. Super excited to get it into the car. It should be here later tonight or tomorrow.
YESSSS :D

I believe protege garage has them for $40 aswell, and Hatchkitten let me know how the install goes, we still haven't got my buddies on yet haha we have to go pick it up at his cottage in New York lol

The install was super easy. Took me about 2 hrs because it was my first time installing something completely on my own so I took my time and triple checked everything. Lol I ended up not using the red vent hose that came with it and just kept the old black one because a) i liked the way it looked more and b) it fit better. I bought a spectre cone filter from pep boys and used that instead of the one provided and it just just fits. It sort of rests on the rad hose. But if I was to cut the pipe down on the far pipe it would fix that. I'm just too lazy right now. The "mounting system" they recommend is sort of ghetto lol but works as well. I love the way it looks and sounds and for 30 bucks. I'm a happy camper.

The mounting system is to take two oddly shaped metal pieces, bolt them together, bend it and mount it to a random bolt on the frame and rest the MAF on it in case you were wondering. Also, if you want I can forward the PDF directions they emailed me if you guys have misplaced them.

Looks good! I should have went the cheap route when getting a SRI. I got the AEM SRI from ProtegeGarage and I spent like 180 or more if memory serves me right.

First off, I am jeleous of the white lol secondly it looks really good! I may like it better than my AEM, have you noticed anything while driving? I felt a bit better throttle response but not much else, I can't wait to get my hands on an exhuast! :)
