UPDATE:
Canceled Apexi muffler.

Ordered Bosal header from Mazdamotorsports and Mazdaspeed exhaust cam from Corksport.

Thats it. As soon as it that gets here I will get it all installed. May be a while though cause I got 2 tickets in VA and have to get a lawyer.

List:
MHP CAI
FS-ZE intake cam
Mazdaspeed exhaust cam
Bosal header
Apexi S-AFC
B&M short shifter
Tripoint flywheel
ACT clutch

Will get a racing cat and muffler from the place doing the install.

UPDATE:

Exhaust cam came in yesterday. It has the EXACT same numbers and everything stamped on it as the intake cam, so I thought they sent me the wrong cam. I put the 2 side by side and they are different, so I guess it is the right cam. Waiting on header then I gotta get the money up to get it all installed. I got $400 now. I get paid Fri but I have car payment and bills, but should have about $400 from that. That's $800 but am expecting it to cost me $1000 or so.

Install quotes so far are: Cams $200-$250. Clutch and flywheel $200-$250. High flow cat $100. Tenzo R muffler $100.

Hey NC where did you get your intake and exhaust cam and how long did it take to get? I am going to order mine tomarrow with the 10.7:1 pistons. My Injen intake should be here tomarrow to so I am hoping that the intake, cams and pistons give he some good horsepower. I wonder what the 10.7:1 pistons give you. Do you know?

I got both cams from Corksport. http://www.corksport.com I would stay away from the pistons cause they are very expensive to get installed and not worth it cause they are cast. Higher compression also means running less boost if you go with forced induction cause high compression and forced induction = detonation. I would wait until someone makes a quality forged piston set before ripping the engine apart.

Hey NC I how much did they tell you to get the pistons installed. I already ordered them with the intake and exhaust cam. I know the mechanic at the local mazda dealer so I am getting them to put it on. My injen intake and carbon fiber tail lights should be here tomarrow so I will put them on. As of right now I am trying to stay NA. I traded in my 89 RX-7 Turbo II for my MP3. That thing halled some @#$. I had like 5-6K in that engine alone. Plus the turbo upgrade, exhaust, intake and all the other things. I dont want my MP3 to be that fast again. I just wanted alittle more than 150hp. I am curious how much I am going to gain with the intake, cams and the heads. We will have to hook up when I get my stuff on in NC somewhere. Im in Goldsboro.

I was told anywhere from $800-$1000 for the piston install. That was from both HP Imports in Jacksonville and Phantasm Motorsports in Raleigh. The pistons, cams, and all should get you to ~165-170 @ the engine, but I really am guessing at that. Yeah, as soon as I get all my s*** put on we should get together. I think we are gonna try and plan a NC meet sometime soon. Let me know how your piston install goes.

UPDATE:

Bosal header came in today. I called HP Imports, here's the skinny on install prices.

Cams: $100-$150
Clutch and Flywheel: $200-$250
Header and exhaust from header back: $400
High flow cat: $100

He said I need $1000-$1200 just to be safe cause they dunno what kinda mods they need to do to get everything to work. I have the $$ now but I really need to hold off cause I got 2 tickets in VA and need to see how much that is gonna cost me.

Will keep ya updated.

NC I will let you know how much it costs to install the pistons this week. I am going to have them do it when they do the intake and exhaust cams since it will already be torn down somewhat. srmotorsports and the mazda mechanic I know said that I should be able to notice the difference quite abit. So I am hoping to get about 35-45hp thats with the CAI intake to. But I dont know since I dont know anyone with my pistons installed.

Since you are going this far, maybe you should also have the head ported while you are having the pistons installed. Can't hurt since you are on the man hunt for more power and what better time to have it done.

Head work might be my next step, but for now I just want to get these parts on my car. I have the $$ now, but I need to wait. I think once all this is done I will be somewhat satisfied power wise, so I am going to start working on the appearance. Rims, coilovers, body kit, and wing will be next. Should have all that by about April. After that it's turbo time!

Yeah NC you are right. The install is suppose to take 19.1 hours. So im looking at about a 1,000.00 to install and thats not counting the gasket and seal kit to put the engine back together. My freind who is the mechanic said that he thinks I will need a new fuel pump as well so I am going to have to see. If I get the pistons installed I dont have to pay to get the cams installed since they will already be out. They can just put the new ones in. But he did say that I WILL be able to tell a difference. They are more excited about putting in on then I am. Well the CAI Injen Intake made a difference. It is alot less restrictive on the highway. I use to be at like 4000rpms @ 80mph and now I am at like 3600rpms @ 80mph plus it runs a whole lot better. I will keep you posted.

Yeah. That would be cool. So did you get the intake and exhaust cams installed? How much did they help? The mazda guy I know said the pistons should give me about 30hp and alot more trq. I am going to call and get some numbers from srmotorsports tomarrow.

I don't have my cams in yet. Waiting to get everything done at once, cams, header, exhaust, clutch, and flywheel. Will be $1000-$1200, should have that soon.

just cause my brain is fried right now, and im new to mazda stuff. but the Mazdaspeed Exhaust Cam is the j-spec cam right. its not an aftermarket regrind

Well I got good news and bad. The bad I cancelled the pistons since they are on back order. But the good news is I overnighted the intake and exhaust cams and set up an appointment at noon to get them installed if they get here before then. So I will let you know how it works with both cams and the intake.

Well bad news again. UPS failed to deliver my damm package that I OVERNIGHTED. I recommend using FedEx if you need something when you want it.
