Winter Tires

Hey guys
i'm currently running 195/55/15 viking snow tires but they are toast
I got a free set of 195/65/15 Sunny snow tires, i'm wondering if they will fit on a p5 without any rubbing issues.
I spoke to a local tire garage and they set it MAY have rubbing issues and the Speedometer will be off.

Does anyone run 195/65/15 snow tires? Or if they will work without any issues
thanks

i bet they will be fine..... i know people run 205/50's with out any problems.

I'm sure that they will fit, but the issue is that the outside diameter is larger and could mess up the computers ABS system. Where the 205/50 15 is almost the same size. What I did was to buy a set of 14" steel rims and go with a 195/65 14" which again works out to about the same size. You can be with in mm of the size and not mess up the ABS, or what I have seen done is to go to the dealer and have them use there scan tool to adjust the tire size in the computer.

Just some things to think about when buying tires for an ABS car/truck

I predict thay'll clear the spring platforms on the struts - by like 1/8 inch if the tires are near full tread. The speedo error will be 6-7 percent. But hey the price is right so go for it. Just only mount one and try it front and rear before you mount the rest.

1995 Eagle Talon's 14" rims wrapped with Michelin X-Ice 185/70QR14 tires. Works like a charm!!!

March 2008 snowstorm was a blast to drive into! 2 feet of snow in less than 10 hours with winds up to near 60 mph.

Saw trucks getting stuck on the road, but not me!!!

With more than 5 inches of sidewall, it's a snowplow!

And i'm not lowered, because of snowstorm.

Hey, do you still have that bug shield on the front of the hood of your P5, like in your sig? If so, where'd you get it, or would you be willing to sell it?

Hmm, didn't know this. What does it do to the ABS and how can you tell if it did?

I'm about to mount my steelies this weekend. Time for the winter set.

Sorry man! I broke it in two while waxing it 2 years ago!

It was already intalled when I bought the car. Nothing was written on it to identify the manufacturer.

how long have you been using the 14" winter tires? dont' you get any abs indicator lights problem?

how wide is th rim hub? i bought a used r14 from a 96 mazda 626 and is 6.5" wide, i think it was originally for a 185 tires, can i use a 175/65-14 tires on this rim? tia for any advise.

It will be the 3rd winter with them.

1st: ABS is toasted. Reason why? I don't know and I don't really care.

2nd:Rim hub? Width of the rim? Rim hub diameter is 67.1mm like ours. Width of the Eagle Talon rim is 5.5".

3rd: if you put 175 wide tires go for 70 or 75 sidewall...175/70R14 or 175/75R14. 175 wide tires on 6.5" rims = Stretch!! Not a good idea for winter.

thanks for the reply, i was wrong in measuring the rim width it was 5.5" so, the 175 will work right?
also i found a cheap 175/65 r14 michelin artic, will those work. tia.

if i may make a suggestion... I ran General Altimax Arctic(195/60/15 6" wide rim)on my Escort GT last winter, and let me tell you, I put that thing thru snow so deep that i pushed a couple inches of snow opening my door.... I went and INTENTIONALLY TRIED to get stuck, wouldnt happen! GREAT tire to look into

175/65 should work with no problems. From personal experience I can tell you that 185/70 will fit just fine too on the same wheels.

how about your abs, no problems with using a smaller rim/tire? my mechanic warned me about the abs and the caliper. i checked the rim and it is less than 1/2" clearance, is that safe?

I don't have ABS so no issue there and I had no clearance issues last winter, ie: snow/slush build up.

The speedo will be 1.3mph faster though which will make a difference when you are going down hill in a 55mph at 60mph...it's enough to put you over the edge...ask me how I know. lol

did the abs started lighting toasted because you started using the smaller tires?

will probably get a 175/70-r14 if i could find a cheap one. with the 65 it has >3% difference, which some tire size calculator says might cause break failure and would not recommend. dont want to risk that. thanks for the help.

175/65 will be a bit short, try finding 175/70 or 175/75.
