Looks like a new distributor is in my future. I replaced the rotor with a new one and the car runs again but don't know that I "fixed" the problem.
 
Strange, Looks like the center heated up and decided to rotate + slide into the molten plastic.

I think that's what happened.

Probably due to bad bearings in the distributor.

See all the red dust?

Not good... :(
 
Is the red dust from the bearing seals?
