My last Mazda's

2012 Mazda3
Just want to vent my frustations with my Mazda's and my dealer, Jeff Wyler Eastgate Mazda. Already filed some complaints online and on their facbook pages.

Bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 back in November 2013. Up until December 2014 and 33,000 miles, no issues. Second week of December, was entering the highway and decided to accelerate a bit , got up to about 80 mph and let off the gas. That's when all of a sudden the engine light, traction light and tpms came on. Car lost power but was able to pull off to the side of the highway. Sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders, pushing the gas pedal, car wouldn't go. Shut the car off and on and performed like normal. Took it the dealer to have checked out. They couldn't replicate the issue and says it was my K&N filter I had, which is false since I've had the filter for the last 20k miles on the car and another 30k on my 2012 Mazda 3. Didn't drive alot for another week and a half, sure enough did the same thing doing the same accelerating pattern. Let it go then the following did it again and but this time it happened twice in a row and the engine light stayed on. Got the code of p0301 which is a cylinder 1 misfire issue. Take it back AGAIN and they keep for almost 3 weeks. They finally got the car to do shut off. Replaced fuel injector with no luck. Ended up replacing the crank pulley and belts and say it's working. They also replaced the battery because they said it died and had a bad cell. Pick the car on a Tuesday evening and sure Friday morning did it AGAIN!! Already called Mazda Customer Support and got a case number set up. Dealer "says" Mazda wanted me to take a tech out to replicate problem, which they can, why they want me too, I have no clue. Sure enough the day I take it to the dealer, it did again on my way there. Tech scans the car, sees the same codes and prints them out. Couldn't get the car to shut off again, so I wait. The following week, call Mazda Customer Support and say the dealer said no codes were found, BULLCRAP!! Dealer is a joke! Complained to the dealer service manager and he "says" that Mazda knows the problem, software related but no release date. I think Mazda and the dealer don't want to do anything cause my car no has over 34k miles and after 36k, it's out of warranty. I'm done and fed with Mazda and the dealer. will never buy another Mazda and through that same dealer.

Also I have a 2012 Mazda 3 bought new at the same dealer. Have over 61k miles with no issues, except one. When down shifting, car wants to surge quickly. I've seen others have the same problems on forums I visit. This the other reason I won't buy another. 2 new Mazda's both with issues. The Mazda 3 isn't that big of deal, cause I can get around it, but when your on the highway and you lose power in traffic, that's life threatening.

As of today, nothing new,,,,

You can use the torque app (free) and a $10 ob2 Bluetooth adapter to log those codes.. it will also show "pending" codes that sometimes show up before the engine light comes on. You can log data or simply take a screen of whatever shows up.

Since this is power train don't you have 60,000 miles of warrantee coverage?

If you open a service record with the dealer before your warranty runs out you can go back after if the problem persists. If the issue was recorded but not solved it is not repaired. I'd switch dealers for a second opinion, but don't act like your looking for a second opinion. Dealers rarely want to bad talk another dealer. But they would love to get a new customer.

You have 94k on 2 vehicles with 2 major issues? Thats amazing. Dont go around saying you will never buy another mazda, like you have a better choice? All cars are junk built like disposable appliances. Not one company is out to build you anything more...they are in it for the money. I can both prove and disprove the quality of every company. Sometimes you win some times you don't.

I don't understand the big whoop? They are trying to help but havent solved the problem. your power train is warranted to 60k miles. Calm down. If they can't fix it take it to another dealer. You haven't been wronged, whatever expectation you had wasn't met. But the dealer is obviously trying to work with you. I'd dismiss your complaint.

Not my last Mazda, but 0 will be the number of K&N's I buy today or tomorrow.

#1 mistake was going to the dealer with the aftermarket part on.

They haven't reflashed ecu because according to the dealer, they are waiting on Mazda for new software. These are my first Mazda's and both have problems. I have bought new cars from Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Scion, each more than double the what the cx-5 has and had ZERO issues with them. I don't think it's a powertrain issue, more an ecu, electrical issue. Doesn't do it all the time. It's random, that's the problem. I've had K&N filters an almost all my previous cars with no issues. It still does it with oem filter so I know it's not a filter issue.

So, you bought 4 cars from 4 different companies and they were perfection according to you, but you didn't return to buy another. Then you buy a Mazda, have an issue that you don't follow through to get corrected and purchase another Mazda?
...Jus sayin'

Looks like your mind is made up anyways

I had a Ford Escape previously and a similar issue was had by others in the Escape forum. Turned out to be a broken wire leading into the ECU. It flexed too much and broke internally. They should check the continuity of the ECU wires perhaps?

You should file a complaint at National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA; http://www.nhtsa.gov/) as your car is not safe to drive on the highway and Mazda dealer is enable to fix the problem within a reasonable amount of time (more than 3 months now). File a complaint at your local Better Business Bureau (BBB) too. You should ask Mazda Customer Experience Center rep to give you a loaner car until the dealer can fix the problem. Like other people said, Mazda still has obligation to fix your problem under warranty even if your new car warranty expires as you've already logged the issue before the warranty runs out. Although from my past experience, it can get tricky and the car manufactures can just use any unfair reason to deny the warranty repair afterwards.

Every car manufacture, even if it is Toyota or Honda, will have some problems on some of their cars. The best is not to have any problems, or sometimes they are very difficult to fix as the cars are just getting too complicated. I also agree, since your problem is intermittent, it has something to do with bad connection somewhere in the wire harness and Mazda should try to replace the whole wire harness in the engine bay and checking the bad connections around the ECU. I had done that once, replacing whole engine wire harness by a VW regional service manager, on my 1987 VW Vanagon and fixed the intermittent engine problem the dealer itself couldn't fix.

I remember reading a similar problem awhile back, IIRC, that one turned out to be a loose ground wire to frame connection.

Those intermittent problems most likely are caused by the bad connections somewhere. Bad grounding is one of the possibilities. That's why that VW regional service manager, instead of spending so much time to trace the bad wires or connections, he simply just replaced the whole wire harness in the engine bay! But diagnosing OP's problem should be the job of the Mazda dealers or Mazda North American Operations. They have the obligation to fix the problem as soon as they can as the car is still under warranty!

Driving on the highway with the fear of losing engine power at any time is not a fun thing and in fact is very dangerous! Mazda NAO should step up by sending its regional service manager helping the dealer to fix the problem ASAP as the problem has been dragging on for 3 months now! Letting jingjing, the OP, hang high and dry is just not the right thing to do! Things happen but I really feel sorry for the OP and hopefully he can get a quick result from Mazda NAO.
