Jobs?

Work work work, all day long...

Systems Analyst for Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. I make old archaic legacy systems interact with new front-end user interfaces that use .asp, java, .html etc... The work is less than exciting, but it pays well I guess. I never thought I would end up a programmer with my degree in Management Information Systems, although, I never thought I would be programming COBOL to interact with a web application either. :)

Yeah, I think that is who does my payroll, so don't screw up!!:D

Are you kidding this is BigBlue you are talking to...I don't make mistakes.....lol ok I make tons of mistakes, but not when I'm coding...I'm quite particular when it comes to that as I hate bad code.

I work as an "IT Specialist"(programmer/analyst in normal terms) for good ol' Big Blue....aka IBM....ooh and you thought my name was just cuz of the car huh?

I am a consultant so that means I get contracted out to other companies to write business software for them. Lately I write a lot of Java code mostly so that whichever company can get complete online business solutions. My current project is working for a company called Ceridian who are a large payroll company and I'm helping to create an online payroll system...fun stuff.

Best part of my job is that I always get high-speed net access so I can chat all day! :)

Whoa, your job title sounds really familiar to mine!
I agree about the java, it sure is a good way to write code...
The only thing about IBM, is that I associate stuff like MVS, ISPF, COBOL and JCL with them! lol Oh well, I think it's just because of the old mainframe sitting downstairs that I hate so incredibly much. Anyways, its all good!

I am a systems analyst for Bayer Corp.

Your PC breaks, it is my fault and you call me. The network between Germany and USA is down, it is my fault and you call me. You call and say that you can't log into the server..... I ask which server, you say 'the one I store my data on', it is my fault that I don't know which of over 500 servers you are trying to access. You are working with a program that we don't support or have never heard of and you don't know how to change settings in the program, it is my fault and you can't understand why I don't know every detail about this program. You are removing programs from your machine to free up disk space, think that because you have never used the 'Windows' folder it isn't being used for anything and delete it, it is my fault that you wiped your PC out and lost everything and you call me asking why there wasn't a back up made of it.

I really do like my job.

LOL. I worked for 3 years in a Network Admin. capacity and we had a lot of similar calls to what you described above. I think my favorite was calling people and telling them that looking at porn while working was not in their job description. I am glad to see other IT people on here!

Oh, and one more thing... Sure I get to see a lot of beautiful women, but there are a few REALLY scary ones that come in and only look good after some MAJOR work on my part. I have nightmares about them! Don't believe everything that's in print. Photoshop can make miracles happen.

I bet you are a photoshop master!!! :) Your job sounds interesting as far as all the graphic design stuff goes... The playboy models would be fairly interesting too... ;)

By the way, your website is awesome!
I can't draw at all other than diagrams and such, but I really appreciate some of the artwork you had posted. Great stuff!

I work for Electric Motor and Contracting as a nuclear project manager. I get to work on all those wonderful electric motors that sirnuke uses. We do some really huge motors, up to 20,000HP, so it's kind of intresting. How'd you like to stick one of those in a protege. By the end of july I will be glowin green....I have a 40 hour radiation worker training then.

I work in Miami as a POPO! I have been a cop for 2 years and enjoy it.:D

ahh, that's how you get away with SPEEDING in that boosted mp3!

BTW, I'm a computer programmer. I forget what the hell my company calls me..."program specialist" or some crap. I work on an air traffic program used around the country.

So if you're in a crashing plane and you're going to die in a fiery explosion, you call me. Because it's my fault.

:D

Civil Engineer here. Or at least training and going to school to be one. Right now I do lots of cad work. I basically do just a little less than degreed civil engineers but get paid MUCH less than them. I'll be there in about 2 more years though. Then I'll be in the big bucks,....yeah right. More like 20 years down the road. Everyone thinks engineers make a lot of money. Sorry, not at first. It take about 15 to 20 years with good experience to break into the $100,000's. My boss make around $175,000, before massive bonuses. He's been here for 23 years though.

Linux, the two martial arts have a lot in common. they are both close range, and deal with joint locks pressure points, ect...
Hapkido deals mostly with grabs and takedowns. I luv it. I've been training since I was 10.

I love the graphic design part of my job - layouts, effects, that sort of thing. I could live without the soft-core and would be much happier if they only assigned me to the family films or the dramas. I like doing the action movies too because I can do more with them. With the erotic films I pretty much have a simple formula - put a babe on the cover wearing as little as the MPAA (Motion Picture Assoc. of America) will allow us to get away with.

Thanks for the complimant on the artwork... I haven't put my recent work up on it because there was a disaster with that. I had six months of paintings and drawings that I was taking to the framers in the trunk of my Integra. Unfortunately the car got stolen that day along with all my work. The worst part was that I hadn't photographed any of it, and it was truly the best I'd ever done. I was so devastated that I couldn't bring myself to pait for several months. Still haven't quite started back again.:(

The car was just a material posession that I didn't feel too bad about, but losing all those months of work broke my heart. I just hope those bastards that stole my car at least took the work home and hung it rather than dumping it into some gutter, but I imagine anyone who's low enough to steal cars probably doesn't have much of an appreciation for art.

Amarek - my business card just has the company name and "Graphic Designer" on it. No mention of Playboy models on them... lol

I am a Ops Tech (Prod Ops) for AT&T Wireless Services in one of the 2 major data centers. Your sever goes down, you call us.. your application breaks, you call us. We are usually more proactive than that though. My organization manages the data and servers that support business apps and billing. We are responsible for their overall health. We are 24x7, so I work holidays too. Do you know Jeff Copeland?

I know who he is. I don't know him personally. He transferred here from Texas, right?

Don't you love getting free unlimited wireless service. What applications do you deal with? Seibel? Vitria? ATLYS?

If you ever come to the Orlando Call Center for training or meetings look me up.

I'm a Software Engineer / Sys Admin / Systems Analyst (business interactions and the effect of new development and modifications upon the existing system). I run a Data Processing department.

I, too, never pictured myself as a computer guy (I've really always been a voracious academic), but I just happened to pick it up on a lark. And as luck would have it, wages went crazy near the end of the century. :D

I'm also doing legacy back-ends with web front-ends. I'm excited about beginning an Oracle DBA sequence next month. I'm migrating our antique system to a Sun/Unix box running Oracle in the coming year.

me no like ATLYS.

One of the internships that i turned down for the one that didn't work was with Hamid Alipour in Washington. Hes the head of Suncom's IT Department, which as yall know is now AT&T wireless.

I wish i had taken it while I had the chance

I hear ya. My Shihan also teaches us Jiu Jitsu. This is where we get our joint/wrist locks and falling techniques from. Goju Ryu itself is a combination of hard and soft styles. The work together to compliment each other. You attack hard, while being able to move and parry without wasting energy. I've been in it since I was 13. Even though I am tall 6'3", I used to get picked on. That stopped after 7th grade.

Yeah, I used to work with Jeff. All those apps you mentioned above I support and much more! We support at least 50+ apps, and hundreds of servers. You use screen pop? If so, we are responsible for the monthly reboots of the servers (Genesys, IVR) and making sure the apps on them are functioning correctly.

Right. I bet a lot of people are drooling over your P5. A sea of similar cars begs the eye to something different.
