Well. We have had the "How old are you thread", "Do you have any tattoos" thread, and "What do you look like" thread. Just more ways to learn more about the members of out little community

My turn.

"What do you do for a living" thread

I'll start.

I am a Technical Support rep for AT&T Wireless Services. Your phone breaks... you call me. You don't know how to use your phone, you call me. And the list goes on and on.

please... if you have AT&T Wireless and are not happy with the service do not use this thread as a bitching session, thanks

If you have a job title that a lot of people might not understand... elaborate.
 
Right now class is over for the summer so I work 2 jobs 30 hours at a daycare and another 25-30 at a grocery store as a cashier and a service counter rep... I know that they aren't the best but hey, I'm a full time student too... :D

i work at a jet ski rental place on the waterway, and i skate for NC Skates in wilmington, thats kinda a job even though i don't get paid for it, i still have to meet stuff, and get paid in product.
 
I am a stupidvisor...I mean SUPERVISOR in the maintenance deaprtment of a Nuclear Power Plant....been in this field for 26 years....

WE make electricity....when you flip the switch and you turn on your lights...its because I have been doing my job...when you turn on your computer and it comes on...its cause I am doing my job....when your TV comes on.....well you get the idea....

and IF you don't like Nuclear Power....if you think its BAD?....well .....if you live in the north....just remember that when you are sitting in the dark freezin your ass off! lol :{D sorry....but its safer than most every major industry out there...

I'm part of a computer firm called Comp-U-Sultants, Inc. We sell, service and support computers and the mindless folks that use them. My weekend gig - which use to be my full time gig, which MIGHT become my full-time gig again - (is anyone following this??) is a radio DJ at an oldies station on Lawn Guyland.

Please... if you have a radio and are not happy with what comes out, do not use this thread as a bitching session, thanks!
 
I'm a graphic designer for a movie company that specializes in soft-core porn. Yep, that's right. I'm sooooo not the type of person you would imagine to be working there, but neither is anyone else that I work with. We all have college degrees, are down to earth, and, with the exception of a couple of seedy co-workers, are embarassed by some of the stuff we put out there. Sure, we do family films, independent films, and dramas, but really, sex sells. I work with images of mostly Playboy Playmates, airbrushing shots, putting clothes on people who aren't wearing any, and strategically placing shadows here and there to hide, well, everything. Once these things are all edited, then I can go ahead and use them in posters, etc. We wouldn't want little kids picking up videos in the store with the original images on them, believe me! I'm kinda desensitized by now since I see this stuff all day, but I bet I've just made a few of you jealous...lol

Oh, and one more thing... Sure I get to see a lot of beautiful women, but there are a few REALLY scary ones that come in and only look good after some MAJOR work on my part. I have nightmares about them! Don't believe everything that's in print. Photoshop can make miracles happen.

I am a Ops Tech (Prod Ops) for AT&T Wireless Services in one of the 2 major data centers. Your sever goes down, you call us.. your application breaks, you call us. We are usually more proactive than that though. My organization manages the data and servers that support business apps and billing. We are responsible for their overall health. We are 24x7, so I work holidays too. :( Do you know Jeff Copeland?

PDM (Product Data Management) at honeywell...we built those wonderful engines on airplanes, tanks, and helicopters...during the week i live in the basement with a bunch of other programmers and designers trying not to get yelled at...

Your phone breaks....you call me. I thought it was kinda funny. How can you call if your phone is broken. Ok, I know stupid joke.

I'm an Assistant Manager/Store Manager at Donna Karan a.k.a. DKNY in Milpitas, CA. I feel like a loser since all you guys have cool jobs, but hell, I like retail for now anyway. I get a nice discount too :p. I used to do accounting, but I felt like Milton in Office Space, it just got too boring.

Yep, I have one...I work for the state at a medical school, as none other than, a popo...

Campus copper, that'd be me. I even get a gun...Scary.

If you don't like the quality of your doctors/nurses education, don't blame me, I don't teach them. Blame the school they come from. I just try to make sure they don't get really stupid and hurt themselves...So, don't use this thread as complaint line if your doc is a retard.

Most of them are...Something about losing all common sense when they get an MD.

Adragonfly - Cool job, must be neat to watch peoples reactions after you hand them your business card.

Me I am a Factory Worker:rolleyes:

Work at Sandvik Steel in Arnprior producing stainless steel tube and loving it, lots of time off.:D

if anybody needs 2" or less tube I could get it. Most people do their brake lines and build amp and NOS racks with it.
 
I am a systems analyst for Bayer Corp.

Your PC breaks, it is my fault and you call me. The network between Germany and USA is down, it is my fault and you call me. You call and say that you can't log into the server..... I ask which server, you say 'the one I store my data on', it is my fault that I don't know which of over 500 servers you are trying to access. You are working with a program that we don't support or have never heard of and you don't know how to change settings in the program, it is my fault and you can't understand why I don't know every detail about this program. You are removing programs from your machine to free up disk space, think that because you have never used the 'Windows' folder it isn't being used for anything and delete it, it is my fault that you wiped your PC out and lost everything and you call me asking why there wasn't a back up made of it.


I really do like my job.
 
I work as an "IT Specialist"(programmer/analyst in normal terms) for good ol' Big Blue....aka IBM....ooh and you thought my name was just cuz of the car huh?

I am a consultant so that means I get contracted out to other companies to write business software for them. Lately I write a lot of Java code mostly so that whichever company can get complete online business solutions. My current project is working for a company called Ceridian who are a large payroll company and I'm helping to create an online payroll system...fun stuff.

Best part of my job is that I always get high-speed net access so I can chat all day! :)
 
I did work for AT&T wireless too. DAMNE. I quit a couple weeks ago for an intership in Europe. Then I took Enry's advice never to work in italy. Now I wish I still had my job.


Now all i have to to is swim and play raquet ball

I also teach Hapkido two nights a week. That is a korean Martial art. (closely related to Akido)
