2016.5 GT auto light behavior

Could it be that cloth seats are easier to warm up than the leather/vinyl ones?

I have a GT with leather so I don't think could be a factor since mine heat up just a quickly.

So something I noticed today that seemed odd - my lights were set to auto, my wipers were set to auto, there was a solid cloud layer and steady rain - my wipers came on but my lights never did. This is not the expected behavior for me, it seemed dark enough from the cloud cover to warrant lights and it's my understanding that when wipers are necessary then headlights are legally required as well. I don't understand why my lights never came on, and even odder is that after the rain stopped and it got a bit brighter out the headlights did come on. Anyone experience behavior like this? If this is normal, is it possible to tweak the settings for this system somehow? (quick search hasnt turned anything up) I would love to have it be a bit more aggressive about when it turns the lights on, particularly when it is raining.

I experienced this during overcast/slightly dark clouds with light drizzle. Headlights won't turn on but wipers do. I don't mind too much as I like having my DRL pop :) If anything my main complaint is not able to see gauges better.

I've had both and I don't think it made a noticable difference. Cloth might be just a tiny bit faster to warm.

I have cloth seats and I can't have the seat warmer on high longer than about 1-2 minutes without it burning my buns! And I'm not very sensitive to heat - take scalding hot showers, can handle hot jacuzzis better than most, etc. - because I'm only 95lbs and am cold most of the time. But I have to turn the heat warmers to the lowest setting after about a minute.

Interesting note: when I bought my car and the salesman was guiding me through the features, the seat warmers were on and after about 30 seconds I had to turn mine off to which he commented "yes with the cloth seats they get way hotter".

First response back from Mazda about heated seat performance, they say they can't provide temperatures because there are too many factors involved in determining the temperature. I politely called them out on that being a poor answer because it has to have a max temperature it can hit for safety reasons, and I asked them for explanation on what those factors are. Hopefully some real info will be forthcoming soon. I'd really love to have better performing heated seats. One thing that has me intrigued, maybe the reason we are seeing such different performance is because the heated seats are taking ambient air temperature into account. Can anyone who has heated seats which get hot enough they have to turn them down confirm whether this is happening when it is also warm outside? (I've tested mine in 40 to 60 degree weather only)

EDIT: Heard back again already, this looks like their final answer:

"I reviewed this with the specialist and I apologize as there is no set temperature as it is influenced by ambient temperature, meaning on a hotter day it won't allow to get that hot due to the seats already being warm to begin with."

So, if we can get anyone to confirm that their heated seats are performing poorly in cold weather or that their normally too hot seats don't get as hot in warm weather, please do!

Mine worked great in moist 45 degree weather after being parked outside for 9 hours. Being in a kilt, the warm seats were very welcome but I turned it off after driving for 7 minutes.

Yes, the Saab seats wouldn't even activate if it was over like 58 or something.

Reading things like this make me less convinced that ambient temperature is playing a role in the poor seat heater performance, or it plays less of a role and is not the primary factor. Today I tested my seat heaters again, it was approximately 55 degrees out and took 28 minutes before the seat felt warm enough to be noticeable. I believe it did not get as warm as previously too. The weather should be turning colder in a few days so I will get some better testing done then.

Re: Auto lights - today I noticed that even with them on the most sensitive setting they still are not quite as sensitive as I would like. Not a huge deal, but it is minorly disappointing. I really wish there was a greater level of control over these systems than the default menus.
