Okay, apparently I put my oil filter on too tightly last time and can't seem to get it off. I've got a "filter cap" tool and a "filter wrench" tool and the former just warps and doesn't grip, and the latter slides and doesn't grip, both because the thing's simply on too tightly. The only solutions I can think of are:
1) leave the filter on and just change the oil. It's only been on 5,000 miles. Next oil change let my mechanic deal with it
2) screwdriver the thing to death. Downside is what if it still doesn't come off (not a lot of room to maneuver down there!), then I can't even drive my car anywhere but will need to get it towed
I'm leaning towards #1, as well as:
1) switching to synthetic oil so I can change my oil every 10,000 miles and not every 5,000
2) get a fumoto drain valve
These two things should make my life much easier, and my oil changes less frequent.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried wrapping the filter in aluminum foil and "crush" the tools around THAT, but it didn't grip, tried sprinkling comet on the filter (that adds some friction) with no luck -- anyone have any tricks up there sleeve??
