    Problem shifting into reverse

If it's what I'm thinking, the lock-out pin was bent. It might be just fine now . . . or not. You can pull off the top of the console and take a look to see how it all works. If the pin got bent, there may be other damage to the shifter base. I just had mine replaced under warranty b/c the...

1st-2nd-R shifts use care, it's metal vs. plastic & plastic loses!

Stanyl may be a very good idea. Got the new shifter assembly installed and I don't think that my original shift assembly was defective. It's just a bad design. The tip of the metal pin on the side of the shift lever is machined flat. This means that with any substantial sideways pressure while...

1st-2nd-R shifts use care, it's metal vs. plastic & plastic loses!

If it was steel, you'd have to keep it lubricated. I like the idea of Stenyl, which I'm assuming is some sort of tough, anti-friction film. Would it be tough enough to hold up to some pretty good pressure? So, Mazda is going to replace the whole unit. They suggested that I should have their...

The next MS3: AWD Evo/STi killer?

Yeah, I guess I'm overstating the "killer" part. What I'm hoping for is something in between the performance of the MS3 and the Evo/STi, that is also priced in between. Something kind of like this (minus the boy racer wing and with a hatch): http://www.edmunds.com/mitsubishi/lancer/2009/review.html

1st-2nd-R shifts use care, it's metal vs. plastic & plastic loses!

Yeah, plastic is taking over everything. I go to the dealer on Friday so we'll see what they say. Betelgeuse on M3forums says that he has 27k or some such on his, doesn't take much care to push down or be easy on the 1-2-R shifts, and it still looks pristine where the pin contacts the side of...

1st-2nd-R shifts use care, it's metal vs. plastic & plastic loses!

I noticed recently when shifting to 1st-2nd that the shifter was hanging up 1/2 way between like it wanted to go into R without pushing down on the knob. I pulled off the gearshift cover and found out why. The shift lever has a metal pin on the left-hand side that's designed to prevent you from...

What's up with the 5Zigen and/or Racing Beat exhaust for MS3?

Dude, your name should be justhavnfunwithmoneytoburn, but that would be too long, I guess. I'm jealous. Anyway, da clip, please, bring it on. I've got to hear a ricey Ferrari. Also, I second 4th on filling us in on what your mods are about. Very interesting.

    MS6 to MS3

I know, the depreciation on the 6 was tough to take. No regrets at all on the switch. Just want more of the same. Reminds me every time I get in that I'm just a kid at heart.

    MS6 to MS3

Congrats, man! What took you so long? I made the switch almost one year ago!

Just had the #4 mount bolt replaced on my MS3

I noticed a substantial difference, too. Clutch engagement on takeoff seems much smoother and it just feels more solid all around. Initially, I noticed a little more vibration in the steering wheel, but I don't notice it anymore.

    Cnet MS3 Review

These guys need to STICK to car sound systems and electronic gadgets. They definitely have no business reviewing the performance. They obviously have no idea what real turbo lag is. Also, that's the first comment I've heard about wide gear ratios in a 6-speed. Must be confusing it with the...

    Speed Not Calibrated

This is bad news. I've been counting on mine to be fast and keep me just under 10 mph over when I want to be.(five-0)

    Torque Steer Almost Killed Me!

What, you didn't get the special MS-no-slip / anti-torquesteer gloves with the red stitching? I never drive without them. (spin)

If you remove the governor how fast do you think MS3 could go?

They did wind tunnel test it. It comes in .32 IIRC.

If you remove the governor how fast do you think MS3 could go?

Only if you don't consider 155 close to 160. See Automobile mag where the former editor took it out on the Autobahn. I agree the other figure was in KPH or an absurd exaggeration, kinda like the guy I used to work with when I was a teenager who claimed he'd gone 180 MPH in his RX-2.

Mazda Reflashed my ECU, Now I Am Not Getting a Black Tailpipe!

Were any MS3 built before 8/1/06? I guess I need to take a look at mine.

MS3 runs 14 flat @ 101 mph in latest Car and Driver

Whoa, be careful not to let any of that dripping sarcasm get on your clothing. It'll leave a nasty psychological stain. I'm sure he just thinks the MS3 is "incredible" for the price. I do too.

what if? should I have gotten a ms6?

I'll echo the echoes: personal preference is indeed the numero uno reason to go with one over the other. I owned the 6 for a good nine months and then had the 3 for about a month before I managed to sell the 6. The last time I drove the 6 (to the place I sold it to) I couldn't believe how much...
