    Paddle Shift Install - 2016 CX-5

This is not bomb disposal. If you disconnect the battery and let the car sit a while (Mazda says 1 minute, but longer can't hurt) you will have no problem. Service techs in the U.S. are in the process of replacing over 30,000,000 potentially defective Takata airbags as quickly as they can get...

    Paddle Shift Install - 2016 CX-5

Looks like an excellent how-to with just the right amount of hand-holding. One small note - you might mention in step 17 that the airbag connectors and their clips need to be attached before reseating the airbag onto the steering wheel.

The paddles I received came with the screws. Others have reported that their's did not.

You're right, along with some good pics and a beautifully executed custom wiring diagram. It's all there. What more do you need?

Offering this up as possibly some help for a CX-5 retrofit - http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_ecce6e880101j7ij.html Use Google translator or something similar to try to make some sense of it.

Are you saying no holes, or are they just in the wrong place? I have part # GJS2-32-049 from OEM MazdaParts and the release holes are all where they should be.

I would think disconnecting the battery would have the same effect then. In any case, no airbag light on the Mazda.

Alright, even though I took no pics when I added the paddle shifters, I'm going to try to explain it as simply as I can. These pics are from the Russian website I mentioned earlier. https://www.drive2.ru/l/5660413/ First open the trunk and grab the lug wrench. You'll use it to remove the...

    paddle shift on CX-5

Apparently not very, as long as you do it correctly. Service techs are currently in the process of safely replacing well over 30,000,000 potentially defective airbags in the U.S. alone. I haven't heard of any blowing up on them. Disconnect the battery for at least one minute; release the 3...

The old harness has 4 connectors, and the new one has 5. That single black wire with connector is just the horn. The steering wheel controls have nothing to do with Bluetooth. Your cruise and audio controls will function as before.

I ordered screws but the paddles came with a set of 4.

Disregard the Chinese site. It wasn't as good or useful as that Russian website, and it was a "kit" that included factory and aftermarket parts along with some pin work on a connector.

The paddles themselves are nothing more than a prettier, fancier version of a couple of cheap hardware store momentary switches and are only an extension of what you are doing with the gear lever in the manual mode. In fact, if you were handy with wiring and a wiring schematic (and you didn't...

And the Russian site shows a single connector while we (at least in the U.S.) have two connectors side-by-side. I actually had the airbag off twice. Once to see what was required and order parts, and again to do the mod. It took a bit of time to hit those 3 spring releases just right the first...

I'm guessing you meant stealership not "steelership" (or maybe that's what they call them in Pittsburgh), but since I didn't "boogie on down" to my local dealer the first time, I probably wouldn't do it for a 2nd car either. My local dealer wanted $257 for the parts, however from an online...

Yeah, well good luck with that. I really don't think $200 for the parts is all that bad.

It's really not that hard. This is a link to the Russian language site I used, and by using Google translator I was able glean enough to figure it out. https://www.drive2.ru/l/5660413/ After a month, I'm loving have the option of using the paddles. Definitely worth it IMO.

I don't own a CX-5 but I have used the info from this forum and other CX-5 sources (Russian and Chinese) to retrofit paddle shifters on my 2014 Mazda 6 AT Touring. I don't know for sure that this will work on your CX-5's, I suspect that it is the same. Total cost around $200 for...
