What RPM to maximize fuel efficiency?

I shift at 2k I hold first gear to 3k at times. I can average 22-24mpg city. Due to the gearing of the first 3 gears, getting good mpg is tough period. Also, shift only when you have too...if you can stay in 4th at 2k...do it.

I am not sure why people here get such horrible mileage on the hwy. I can get an average for 32-35mpg when trying to conserve gas (long commutes averaging about 100kmph). The key on the hwy is to listen to your rpmwatch the tachometer and match your speed with your throttle controlbasically resting your foot on the gas the whole trip. When I drive faster on the highway averaging 120-140kmph I can still getting 25-27mpg. When I drive like a bat-out-of-hell...who cares!
