The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

anyone got a picture of how is the reverse light output when replaced by led? Is it easy to change the bulbs for reverse lights?

I played with the pictures to try and make them look like they did to my eye.
It is much easier to back into my driveway now (culvert on one side, mailbox and fence on the other, very dark).

Changing the lamp is very easy, use a plastic spudger (or small screwdriver with thin clothe wrapped around the tip) to pop the small plastic panel off of the inside of the rear hatch.

Then remove the lamp & socket (1/4 turn counter-clockwise), pull the lamp out of the socket and replace it with the LED, test before reinstalling the socket into the reflector, (50% chance you get it right the first time).

If it works, reinstall the socket into the reflector, if not, flip the LED 180 degrees in the socket.

Alright guys need a bit of direction here:

Application- strictly plate lights.

Requirements- LED, Must be error free (no need for transistor loader thingys), aprox. 5k in color (more pure white and not blueish).

Would like to know if anybody has lights that fall under those criteria and how long you've had them. Thanks in advance.
I've had mine on for over a year now. I think they came in a corksport kit, but the only reason I did that was because I wanted all my lights changed and didn't want to buy individual. I've ordered from here before https://www.superbrightleds.com/veh...-bulb?make=48&model=643&scc_id=1366&year=2013 or just look at ebay

Think I may go ahead and pick these up. Your pictures seem like a pretty big difference. Does it mess with the rearview camera at all? And do you think they really add additional light, or is it just the brightness playing with your eyes. thanks

I bought these LED's off ebay for $11.97. They use the newer chipset with bigger bulbs. Thought I'd share the pix in case anyone was interested

Overall I am happy. Easy install, bright, white, dim to bright when opening the door and bright to dim when closing the door. No flicker. One bulb had 1 led which had a issue, but luckily they give you a spare. They also give you a spare license plate one.
I'm waiting for these vanity lights to come in https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)

There is a lot more light, makes backing into my very dark driveway (the reason I searched for better backup lights) much better.
They are also very visible (to pedestrians) in daylight.
The image in the rear camera display is also better.

Glad you guys are satisfied these interior LEDs with newer and brighter 5730 chips where I recommended earlier. I thought the spare is for courtesy and reverse lights. You should be able to get a free replacement by emailing the seller.

I ordered those December 13th and still havent received them.
I opened an issue with seller for refund which he did
Hope they do eventually come in
With free shipping from China, the seller usually ships the LEDs with regular surface mail without any tracking capabilities. I had an LED order lost in the mail and the seller not only refunded the money, but also shipped another pair for free which I eventually received within a month. If you don't see the goods in a month from China, it usually means it's lost in the transition.

To me the OEM incandescent 921 bulbs look a lot yellowish than the picture shown. I use spare courtesy and reverse LEDs from https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned) for reverse. The output is not high but at least they're white and they look a lot nicer than yellowish OEM incandescent 921 bulbs.

Yeah I want to be one and done with these LED bulbs. Do not want to replace them nor want load issues.
If you're talking about rear license plate lights, I use LEDs from this https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned) with newer and brighter 5730 chips. They're there for 3 months now and have no issues.

I did the same but I didn't replace the license plate bulbs. I didn't feel the need to make my license plate more visible and when I back up, I see enough through the rear camera as it is. The interior LEDs are awesome.

Changing to LEDs is not only for more light output, but also for whiter color temperature. The license plate LED from that eBay seller has only 2 LED chips toward one direction so the light output is not brighter than OEM incandescent bulb. And you're right the reverse camera has good night vision so I don't really need brighter and more expensive LEDs for reverse lights. The spares from the eBay kit look white and nicer than OEM yellowish incandescent bulbs.

Did anyone replaced their fog light bulbs with led? I wonder if these led can withstand extreme cold.

Technically the reverse lights aren't for camera vision. They're so other cars know you're backing up. The current halogen bulbs are okay, but definitely nothing special. Placing LEDs in there will just about guarantee that a car will not miss you. Mine will be here tomorrow and curious to see how they fair. Even if they don't help with night vision, cars will not miss me when I'm backing up lol

A post on another thread from a guy in Quebec (where as you know winter temperatures get pretty darn cold) has installed the VLED brand LED's for his foglights which he says have worked really well. I believe he has a non-Tech version so check out the following link.

http://www.vleds.com/bulb-type/fog-lights/h11/white-10-led-drl-fog-light-bulbs-h11-h16-1-pair.html

VLED's 5000K foglight LED bulbs would be the way to go as they produce a whiter light vs the 6000K which would give off a slightly bluish hue (so I have read).

These will be my bulb of choice to buy once the $C exchange rate improves as I live in Canada as well.
