The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

Did the license plate replacement light have a negative impact on the rearview camera ?
Do you have the link for the prying kit ?
Thks for the info!
Btw, why did u use the 2800k warm white lights for tje vanity and not the ones from the 1st kit ?
Too bright ?
No, the license plate LED from the kit I got doesn't affect the rearview camera during the night. I was worried about this when I saw a comment from Amazon too. I can see the LED lights from screen but no negative impact at all.

I ordered the "warm-white" 29mm festoon LEDs for vanity separately as the 9-piece kit doesn't include these LEDs. I'd seen people complaining the xenon white LED on vanity will make wife's face looked too "".... (whistle)

Oh crap - is this the bulb for the sun visor or the trunk light?
If it's for the sun visor, no big deal as I find that light inadequate too.
Do you have one for the trunk light, or is it the same?
You can get this https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned) from eBay for only $4.08 plus $1.99 shipping from Hong Kong. "Warm-white" should mean the LED has 2800K color temperature which looks like standard incandescent bulb. These will match up well with the two warm-white sun visor vanity mirror LEDs you just bought. You need 5 for each CX-5 interior and you'll have 5 extra for spare. By doing this you're still ahead than buying a xenon-white LED kit with a useless tool.

The kit from Amazon looks great but doesn't ship to Canada -_-'

I found this on eBay that looks pretty similar, what do you think ?

I am a newbie to this thread. I have a 2014 CX-5 GT non-Tech version. I would like to update my DRL/highbeam lights. Here is my issue. I have browsed the whole thread and have yet to figure out from all the posts if in fact a LED update is available for my vehicle that will actually work. Some say no, some say yes and others say maybe(with a controller/relay added). Is there a definitive answer to my concern?? If so can you lead me to a brand/supplier. I'd hate to buy a set of LED's from a site that shows a 9005 LED for my situation only to find, like some others here, that they don't work. Help!!

I recently replaced the black fog light surround with a chrome one that had LED in an "L" shape. I wired them so they bright setting would come on with the normal daytime running lights and then dim when the head lights come on. They look fantastic.
My dilemma is I want to change the original DRL's so that they match the approx. 6k color of the HID lamps and the new LED surrounds, but I am worried that they are powered at a lower voltage (<12vdc) than LED require.
I will be changing the fog lights as well with LED bulbs.
Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

Wonder why Amazon doesn't ship items to Canada? These tool kits are all look similar. I'd just find a one with lowest price from eBay with good seller rating and huge sales number.
It's not sold by Amazon, it's sold by a seller who doesn't offer Canada shipping. "Fosfun"

I like the looks of these L-shaped LED DRL's. Does yours have the turn signal function that some other eBay offerings claim to have?

What's your brand recommendation for a LED replacement to my halogen DRL/High Beam bulb in my non-Tech 2014 GT?

CX-5 does not come with any under foot lights. What are my options and how difficult would be the wiring? I would prefer having them always ON or even better if with the dome lights?

I have a 2013 AWD Sport non-tech. I installed Morimoto LED bulbs ofr DRL/High Beam. Results: They do not dim on the DRL setting, they are as bright as in High Beam setting. Having done this, you literally lose the High Beam because there are no LED bulbs on the market that will replace the halogen bulb satisfactorily, giving you a reasonable throw, depth, whatever you wanna call it. Yes, your car will look fantastic with those bright DRLs but that's about it. You will annoy a lot of people in traffic but that's another story. Back to your question, I think Morimoto LEDs are the best ones. Ask for a Relay harness, for two extensions with plugs and for a load resistor. You'll need the resistor for the right side input, in order to have the bulbs turning on on the DRL setting.

Yes, I know that some others here have suggested that the weak link with DRL/ highbeam LED's(for the non-Tech model) is with the distance of the beam and not how bright they appear up close. Having said that I recall seeing a picture of a LED bulb where only about 1/4 of the LED's are lit in DRL mode and fully lit in highbeam mode. I was wondering if this bulb had a better long distance beam. I can't remember if it was on this thread or elsewhere. I'd also like to know if any viewers on this thread have tried the "SuperBright 68-SMD P13W/9005" LED's sold at ijdmTOY.com. One of the 4 reviews on that site commented on the poor distance of the beam but others made no comment about this being an issue. Surely there has to be a LED bulb design out there that works in the kind of reflector our non-Tech model has, giving us the (high)beam distance we need!!

Has anyone done their reverse lights in LED's and been happy with them? I'm looking at a set made by Philips that have all good reviews and want to pull the trigger on them but wanted the opinions of others on of there is something better.

I tried 2 sets of backup light LEDs:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
Here is what I found:
in my CX-5 the reverse light bulbs point towards the outside corner of the reflector.
The 800Lumens and the 50W are about the same brightness (eyes really suck at determining how bright something is).
BUT:
The 50Ws didn't light up the sides as well, I think because they point towards the outside corner of the reflector, so the 2 LEDs on the end (with the lens) don't really point outside.
Since the 800 lumens aren't lensed on the end, maybe it gets outside a little better.

My advice: unless you have a car where the light sockets point straight back, go with the cheaper (and seemingly as-bright) 800 lumens.
I took pictures, but they really don't demonstrate the differences well, so I wont post them, but I have a dark driveway, and for each set of LEDs I evaluated rear, and side projection, as well as even lighting. I also checked the image on the backup camera.
Both the 800Lumen and the 50W LEDs did a much better job than the OEMs, but for my car, the 800 lumens had better and more even light pattern, lighting the rear fine, and the sides better.

I use this 921 bulb from VLEDS. Not cheap but you pretty much get what you pay for. 500 lumens in either 5K or 6K temperature. I chose the 6K and like the look and the illumination I get in the backup camera. No glare on the screen

anyone got a picture of how is the reverse light output when replaced by led? Is it easy to change the bulbs for reverse lights?

Found a guy selling crystal eye leds clear/black on ebay. He says the reverse lights never worked. I'm willing to bet he didn't realize the reverse bulb is not included (use stock or buy led). Tempted myself to grab these since damaged mine which i paid $600 for when newer and replaced them with a taiwan version containing a red side reflector vs clear. Good opportunity for saving. Will probably look dumb on a non white/black car though.

Alright guys need a bit of direction here:

Application- strictly plate lights.

Requirements- LED, Must be error free (no need for transistor loader thingys), aprox. 5k in color (more pure white and not blueish).

Would like to know if anybody has lights that fall under those criteria and how long you've had them. Thanks in advance.
