Hi, I have a 2002 Protege LX that I bought but the owner didn't have the alarm remote. I then purchased the remote and went through the programming successfully. Here's where I'm at:
- I can lock and unlock the car with the remote just fine.
- I've noticed that the alarm never goes on, I've tried opening the driver's door with the key but the alarm never goes on.
Here's the odd thing. Since I bought the car, the owner told me that in order to be able to start the car I had to make sure that the little black switch down near the pedals was pulled and not pushed in. Perhaps this is the 'Alarm disable' button I've read previously. If I push that switch in, the needle in the temp and fuel gauges will go up all the way as soon as I insert and turn the key and the car won't start. Is that normal behavior? Where could I start troubleshooting this?
