Please Help, This broke!

I was driving my 2003 Mazda Protege5 and then started to hear a metal on metal noise. I got home and looked under the car and found this part (in the photo) broke off. I found the bracket-looking part on the left side of my crossmember. Can anyone please help me figure out what this is?

Hey MP5 Jake,

I don't have a definite answer, but I can help you rule out some possible areas/assemblies. About two months ago I replaced the front cross member assembly on my MP5. That involved removal of the control arms, front and rear engine mounts, steering rack, midpipe, and the cross member itself . Along that journey, I do not recall seeing a part that could of resembled this.

I know this doesn't solve your problem, but hopefully by ruling out the above assemblies it will be easier to identify this part. Best of luck!

I'd have to go lay on floor and try to spot something like that. If exhaust bracket might not have it on mine tho. Was metal to metal from it rubbing on ground or possibly the axle?
