No New Mazda2 for the United States

I've wondered about this very thing. I'm assuming you'd have to pay some sort of duty tax, fees to be able to use a Canadian registered vehicle in the United States. Will it even pass US safety standards. I'm assuming yes, as I'm assuming Canada has the same standards. Has anyone done this in the past? Any have any info?

Well if the 2 doesnt come to the us, then you can just go up to canada and buy one, if you live near the border.

Here are the responses I've gotten from my local Miami Mazda dealers. My favorite is the last one when she tries to sell me on another vehicle. Good one...

Questions: Will you be selling the all new 2016 Mazda 2 and when will it be available?

Mazda of North Miami

Sales Manager: As of now we have not heard any news on the release date of the 2016 Mazda 2. We should be hearing more updates as we near the middle of the year.

Gunther Mazda

Internet Sales Manager: Yes we will be selling the 2016 Mazda 2. Would you like to place an order to secure a vehicle?

Me: When is it going on sale?

Internet Sales Manager: Not for a few months but I will keep you informed.

South Motors Mazda Miami

Internet Sales Manager: Yes we will be carrying the 2016 Mazda2 when it becomes available.

Me: Is it actually becoming available?

Internet Sales Manager: Yes we are hoping by mid year.

Brickell Mazda

Internet Sales Manager: Unfortunately we have not received any information from Mazda regarding availability of the vehicle. However, we do have many vehicles available at the moment that you could be interested in. Feel free to contact me at any time.

Me: Why would i be interested in another vehicle when I'm asking specifically about the new Mazda 2?

Internet Sales Manager: Crickets......

Conclusion? We're at the same place as we were before I asked them. With no solid answer. Which honestly... was expected.

Haha. These dealers are funny. I'm pretty sure if Mazda was interested in the new 2 it would be here already. I don't think Mazda will call attention to the DE disappearing, it will simply die on the vine and then they will laud the brand new/ first ever CX3.

You should really, really retract this statement. If a car has not been federalized for sale in the US you cannot import it here unless it is 25 years old. It doesn't matter if it's brand new and will likely meet all US regulations.

the current generation mazda 2 is well and truly here, i am down here in new zealand. with that grill it suits being customised but not kept untouched imo.

25 years to import from anywhere, exceptions made for "significant" cars that haven't been federalized like the Veyron.

Occasionally independent companies release federalized versions of cars on their own, but this is very expensive.

Should be no problem if you have the money. Exemption E for EPA compliance and I'm assuming that Canadian vehicle safety standards are in place on a 2015 model car so having an importer add whatever necessary markings like DOT/FMVSS signals and lenses and should be OK. I'm guessing you'd have a $25k Mazda2 all said and done(no clue just pulling a number from my ass).

I don't think is true...

I think this is nothing more than misinformation. I've gotten in contact with a few of my local Mazda dealerships and most of them all now say a similar thing - the Mazda2 redesign has been delayed not cancelled. Much of the effort to debut the car was shifted at the last minute from the 2 to the newer CX-3. This doesn't mean it's been tossed out, it just means they had to delay the release. Some even say they've added me to a list for when the first shipment arrives. So the delayed rumor seems to be holding more water than the cancelled.

Oh, and then there's this too which supports the idea that Mazda would like to position the all-new Mazda2 as a Ford Fiesta ST rival: http://performancedrive.com.au/next-mazda-mps-based-mazda2-report-0518/

A comment posted to my IG regarding the same topic as this thread. Wonder why we might not get the new Mazda 2 in the US? It's because of people like this guy. People with his uneducated mentality.

I was also added to local dealer lists. Hopefully it's delayed and not cancelled for the US.

It makes sense to me for Mazda to target the Fiesta ST. Mazda has had a MS versions for almost all their line up at one point or another. Except the Mazda 2. Sell it in limited amounts. Make it comparable to the Fiesta ST and reasonably priced. I think it'll sell. Although I completely see Mazda creating a Mazdaspeed2 and then not releasing it in the US. I can totally see that happened. Sorry. :)

That's some interesting information right there. I don't think i could pay that much for a Mazda 2 with the limited horses it's coming with. Especially if I'd spend more money to hook it like i do. Now a MAZDASPEED2? Well, that's a different story. Imagine a one of a kinda MAZDASPEED2 in the US? I'm into that.

Mazda told me themselves. Or whom ever is in charge of their official chat that they pretty much don't listen to us on forums. I mean, why WOULD they want to listen to the people that actually BOUGHT their Mazda 2? What do we know right? (yupnope)

I think we should start a petition, bring it to the attention of other online Mazda communities.
