I broke it too. I was replacing a broken starter and needed to lift the cable to get it out of the ratchet extender's way. It's a flimsy ring on the end. I bought one used at the junkyard where they remove it for you. After seeing the hell it took the guy to remove it, I was not thrilled about doing it myself even though I do almost everything on my own cars. As stated above, the guy broke the first one and I didn't wait for him to take another one off. They told me to return the next day and he would have one for me. I bought it the next day. When I got back home, my dad, a lifetime body man, used a battery cable metal section(don't know how to explain it) and put it in the place of the broken section using the same ring on the end. I could not do it in a million years and only many years of experience can do it. This was about two years ago while he was 71 years of age. He has been working with cars for a living since he was 14. Yes, for a living. His dad died when he was only five. This was on a 98 Ford Escort so it will not be the same cable. If you want to give it a shot, I will take a picture of what he used if he has another one around. I no longer have the car.
