I'm planning on turbocharging my protege, and sourcing all the parts required.
A member has an MSP thermostat and says it has an extra nipple on it that had a coolant line hooked up to the turbo. He does not actually know that it was for coolant return though...
I know the coolant comes from the back of the block, and I thought it was returned to the MSP coolant elbow with an extra nipple on it... Could this thermostat setup be used instead?
Anyone seen this before?

Thx guys

This writeup is fantastic!!! Thanks so much!
So the thermostat is the same on MSP and protege correct?

It's from Mazda directly.. it's the document their techs used to install turbo kits on the Proteges that were destined to become Mazdaspeeds. Believe it or not, they came NA from Japan and the turbo components were installed state-side.

And yes, same thermostat. That document seriously outlines all the engine differences between the MSP and NA Proteges.

Ahhhh that makes sense! wow strange that they only turboed in america

Would it be possible to do it without the return elbow? Because I have someone telling me he had it set up that way on his p5 lol
