well I am back to being a regular poster here on msprotege.com. not sure if any of you guys remember me here

a few years ago a couple guys here really ticked me off so I stopped coming by this site unless I needed to sell something.

well its been long enough so I am back.

many of you have may have already seen this thread on one of the other forums I am on (feoa.net, toprotege.com, clubprotege.com)

For those of you who dont remember what I was up to before, all I cared about was max performance from the stock FS motor. I went through a couple engines over the years and made several threads about building the fastest stock motor MSP.
Well nothing materialized. I bought a house instead and then got a great deal out of the blue on a genuine Mazda 1.8 GTR engine.
I decided to sell my FSDET engine and trans as it was getting lame swapping out FS motors and transmissions and used the money to buy a daily driver (chevy malibu).

Then I started building the GTR drivetrain. 1st things 1st, the strongest trans I could source. Toyota's E153 with adaptor to BP motor. Then Lex's Plug and Play ECU and a MKII vvt Miata cylinder head.

A few months into collecting parts I realized I really had no experience tuning with MegaSquirt or tuning ITBs and rather than risk the GTR engine to stupidity, I decided to pick up an escort GT parts car and do a trial run with a run of the Mill bp-05 motor and EGT trans.

That way if something goes boom when it is not supposed too I wont be crying about my dead motor, I will be laughing and swapping in the GTR :)

I built a few ITB intake manifolds (the one for the EGT testing motor is done, the sexy one for the GTR is still under construction)

here are some pics of the FSDET when I first pulled it out. Never in my life have I pulled out a perfectly good drivetrain lol

Here is the most recent pics. In the next post I will cut/paste some pics and info from my other build threads so you guys can see what i have been up to.

here we are with the axles put in, still fandangling for room around the engine bay. Trying to mount the engine as low and far back as possible.

here is a pic of the first mazdaspeed protege to ever have individual throttle bodies :) ;) Feel free to correct me on this but I sure have never seen ITBs in a MSP !

this pic shows the rad clearance. Ive cleaned it up quite a bit since I took these pics and also cut out the stock rad supports and welded in new ones lower and the proper width for the EGT rad.

here are some pics of my ITB manifold for the beta test motor. the manifold I am building for the GTR is not sloppy and gross like this one. this manifold was more of a feasibility test as I have never tried to build an ITB manifold before. Its ugly as roseanne but the functionality of the manifold should be awsome.

(DONT MIND THE ALL THE BENT FS-DE rods hanging on the wall in the background. I like to keep the around for a reminder of why Im doing the swap lol)

please feel free to post up any comments/questions/criticism you may have

eww, dream come true lol. subbin to see how your build turns out :) always wanted to see a BP motor in a 3rd gen but the few I heard that has done it never started a detailed build thread.

ya i heard people have done the swap and that it bolts right in.

then i could never find a single build thread or pic of a bp in a 3rd gen.

then i found out the fun way that nothing "bolts in" lol

but ya fun times :)

Looks like a cool build. It seems like swaps are becoming more and more popular. Soon having an FS will make an MSP rare :)

^yeah thatll be the day.

the KL bolts in - im not sure where you saw the BP does, but i dont think it does, nor does the ZM for that matter. its possible the BP bolts in to a ZM-DE protege (BJ), but thats all speculation.
the BP definitely bolts into older proteges.

yes i believe corksport did swap a bp into a 3rd gen and it was awsome fast. dont have any info/pics/vids though. im sure they are on the internet somewhere.

never seen a bp in a mazdaspeed though. seen just about everything else, fsze, klze etc.

Yeah! Finally someone willing to put something other than a Honda motor in this car (pun intended for those who know what im talking about!)

Cant wait to see when its done!
