I understand how i-stop works for petrol engines----whilst the engine is stationary, some fuel is injected into one cylinder where the piston is nearest TDC and fired.
But what about diesel engines? Being compression ignition, they require movement already to compress any fuel injected. So is the engine spun by an auxiliary electric motor, or how else is the initial motion induced?
