Gonna check out a GT + PEP on Friday

:
2017 SRC CX-5 GT + Premium
So, in another thread I was commenting that I hadn't seen GT with a Preferred Equipment Packages around town. The credit union I financed my Escape with sent me an email about their Spring car sales event, so I figured what the heck, fill it out. I put in the GT with PEP, and sure enough... a local dealer contacted me saying they have exactly that, in the SCR. It's not listed on their site for some reason.

Anyhow, had a few back and forth emails, including me saying I needed to wait until September for work bonuses. He persisted and asked what I want my payment to be. Now I know how that game goes - ask for a low one and sure enough they can meet that... with a super long loan timeframe. So, I got specific.

Told him $450/mo or less on a 63 month loan, that I had $1,500 - $2,000 cash down and a car for trade-in that's probably $3k - $3,500. He came back and said his manager would do $450/m for 63 months. And they can defer the first payment through September. That got my attention.

The only place I can think of where they have leeway in "making that happen" is the sales price (after whatever "deals" they have arranged in conjunction with the credit union) and how they value my trade-in. Anywhere else they might be able to manipulate the deal?

No obligations, but I said I'd come by after work Friday to see/try the car and take a look at the offer details. Independently I had gotten a pre-approval loan from the CU, for 2.24%, so at least I know what my rate would be.

If you plug the numbers into a loan calculator that seems fair... I mean putting 5k'ish down on a car can greatly alter the monthly payment, and that extra 3 month that seems to be popular also lowers your monthly payment. Figure for the most part dealerships aren't moving greatly off MSRP on the 2017 models (figure they will sell it to someone else)... to me getting the GT with the premium package for that price is a lot of car for a decent price.

I'm assuming it's your CU that is deferring payment until September? I just ask because I don't see what pull the dealership would have there... it's only .5%, but Mazda (Chase) has 1.9% APR going for 60 months.

To me in the end as long as the price seems fair (I think this is for a new, hard to find, highly desired car), and is on paper, I don't really care how they come up with the figures... you probably know the stories, the more they give you on the trade, the less they can budge on the price of the new car, blah blah blah.

If indeed I can walk out with $450 for 63 months OTD, I'm happy with that. Not sure where the deferral comes from. I didn't ask, but I will. The .5% difference... not sure if that's "well qualified" buyers. I'm pretty good, but not at 800 :) But I'm sure if they got me a lower %, then the sales price may be higher... or trade-in lower. That part of it is a game, which is why I wanted to get them to 'commit' to a monthly payment amount for a specified term... in numbers I felt were good and fair, given what I've read things seem to be going for.

The one thing that still irks me is that the form I filled out was for a non-obligation price quote, which technically I haven't gotten yet. Dunno what the sales price (or deals) is/are, yet.

The sales rep told me it is possible to get Eternal Blue with parchment, too. That's two sales guys I've heard that from. Hmmm...

I ended up with the Eternal Blue with black... the dealership I went to had the SRC, but coming off of a 2016 SRC (obviously without the new fancy painting method) I just liked the change up, and I think that the Eternal Blue looks sharp. I think either way you can't really go wrong, whatever you pick :)

So.....is the purchase price a good deal or not? They can do anything with numbers. Take care of the purchase price and the payments will work themselves out.

Like one member had said, it's possible if the dealership is willing to simply swap seats and door panels with another CX-5 with parchment interior as Mazda's color scheme for interior is very simple with all black for all other components.

It's funny Bruce the "Product Specialist" we met during the Mazda Test Drive Event we went yesterday insisted 2017 CX-5 has a "tan" interior until I wanted him to check the Mazda website! He still swore he personally saw one and I told him that 2017 CX-5 with tan interior must be a special-made CX-5 for his MNAO CEO! ;)

Ok so they made zero concessions on sales price. Stuck to MSRP. Totally low balled me on the trade in, so I went straight to no thanks. Trade in crept up a couple times but the best they could manage was $530/mo, so I walked, which is $80/ mo more than they said over the phone they could make happen. Lol :/

3 hours that both me and the salesman won't get back. Confirmed you can't get Eternal Blie with parchment. Duh.

Really did enjoy the ride, though! Man it's much nicer.

Look for $500 incentives for Memorial Day.

Good for you. Memorial Day ought to see people getting $2000-3000 off MSRP if they try. Good luck...

Oh geez I don't see that happening at all. Memorial Day is 3 weeks out, and dealers are still clearing 2016.5 models off their lots.

You can already get that off here if you try, and are prepared to walk like you did at a dealer. A couple dealers have them discounted already from $700-1200 off MSRP with no haggle. Sit tight, or demand it and see what happens...lol

That would still really surprise me. I don't see high inventory counts for the 2017 models now (I think 17 is the highest I've seen) so either they are holding off on taking delivery, or they don't keep them around for long. Where are you?

Quoting prices from VA and NC.

How bout you?

If you really want a good deal, go for the 2016.5 model. Yeah, you may miss a coupla 'gee-whiz" features (like HUD), but I got a 32K car for 27K. Great deals can still be had on these, and you'll still have something really nice to drive.

Yep, that's what I did. $26,400 vs the same in 17 for 29900 (a great price, but not worth it to me). This one will suit me just fine for many years, unless they decide to show up with that turbo...lol

Don't want the 2016.5 model... for two primary reasons, initially (rear vents and rear USB - my kid will greatly appreciate BOTH in the back seat) and then the new packages added on top of that. So, yeah... not expecting to see a good dea of $$$ below MSRP on 2017s in the near future. They did offer me $2500 off a 2016.5 model, and I declined, for that reason.

Houston. There are a handful of dealerships within driving distance of town. Even the one that works with Costco, and was supposed to "meet or beat" invoice was only a couple hundred below MSRP. All the others I've talked to, when I ask for "today's price" they have sent me the window sticker.

17 Outclasses 16.5 in many ways. If you are spending 27K, you might as well pay a bit extra. Understand that 17 buyers will make up a bit of the 3k difference when they sell theirs. In fact a 17 Touring with a good package >>> 16.5 GT Loaded imo and price wise they are similar.
Big pluses for 17:
You cannot get the quiet interior - you can do all the dynamat stuff - but cant match what Mazda did from factory.
Rear Vents are plus.
Its profile is more apt now - a bit lowered. It wont have that much trouble pushing air when doing 75-80 mph which the 16.5 aka fatboy Tim cant.
Interior is a class above 16.5 - 16.5 is a Cave like interior even with Sand seats. 17 is so cool.

I own a 16.5 but I need one asap so no point waiting. But 17 runs circles around 16.5 in every way. It is a superior CUV.
