For those who have Black or Blue

Here is a question for you guys who drive black or blue and wax your p5 too.

(this includes you too, sir nuke, ;) )

I was helping my friend waxing his blue p5 the other day, I noticed that there is some kinda maze/swirly marks on the hood, they were visible after the wax, I have also seen them on other makes too, like VW and BMW, I used to think that its an european car thing, maybe they use different clear coat or something, but p5s too?

Have you guys seen it? (the maze after wax) How do you fix that?

Meguiar's and Mothers sell some stuff called Swirl/Scratch remover. It works pretty well. Be sure to use a clean soft rag. An electric buffer will also make it a lot easier and maybe give a better result. By the way these swirls and marks propable are on your paint also. They just tend to be more visible as the paint is darker. I myself got that little cordless buffer made by Simoniz (Canadian Tires run an add for this this spring) and it works very well. For 89 $CND, it's a good investment for your car.

yep...what you are seeing are TINY circular scratches in your paint from where you washed/waxed it.....its nearly imposible to 100% avoid this....and like Yellow stated...they are there on EVERY car....but you can't see them on lighter colors.......its part of having a dark car.....and something you have to deal with..

yes they can be remove as stated above.....but be ready to be doing that on a regular basis...as they will return.

I got 'em

Hey Lamb, I have a Midnight Blue.

I have the swirls, too. They will go away with some work.

My opinion is to use the Mother's or Meguairs scratch and swirl removal.

If you use a buffer, I don't like Orbital buffers. I have one that goes side to side instead of circles. Works pretty well.

Good luck

Hi guys, i detail and i think i can help. Those are swirl marks created by waxing and drying. Mostly from drying. Make sure to use soft clothes only. Don't over wax. It often makes them worse. Some swirl remover would work but what works well is a nice hand glaze or paint sealer. Swirl marks will happen on all dark cars. ANy other detail related question, i'm the man you can ask. I would be much abliged to help y'all.

cool.......a detailing specialist on the board......just what I need....haha......
I got one question P5 DO OR DIE............How often should a car be waxed ??

thnx, P5 DO OR DIE, hand glaze and paint sealer, notes taken, but what are these things? Drying? You mean it has something to do with the drying cloth I use?

mine's too new, i dont even have to really wash it, just rinse it off...but this concerns me a bit, does it make the car look bad or is it very noticeable?

BlackP5Lethr

It looks sorta like grease marks, its weird that you can not notice them on doors and bumpers, only hood and roof and top of trunk (for my friends' jettas and 330), i first thought they were caused by dirty polishing cloth or something, got clean ones, still same thing...

did you look at it under different types of light? im sure sunlight makes everyhtng alot more noticable.

Hnad glaze is like a week wax. Look at your local auto shop or if you have a hook up, or if your a smooth talker you could consult a local detail shop. They'll know what your talking about. To answer how often should you wax. once every 3 months and i would suggest a hi speed buff once a year. For the drying q's. a towel of terry clothe will scratch a car to hell. Make sure to use a 100% cotton drying clothe. We call them diapers at the shop. You could also find soft drying clothes @ a local auto shop.
Hope this helps.

O yeah sunlight is the best light to see swirls.

What about those chamios, or synthetic ones? They good for drying?

i used an chamios called the absorber.... it works great.
you should try it. I got mine at work. i think its worth the price. i also used the leather chamios before and they didnt work for me... it left streaks all over my car.

I use the absorber, also. Works unbelievably well.

I have been using them too, but there were still grease looking marks on cars with dark colour. Btw, you guys should always use the synthetic ones, 'cause the authentic ones are kinda acidic and might harm your p5's paint.

CHAMOIS will work fine but for me and my shop we use a clifornia water blade to remove most of the water and them go over it w/ a diaper.
