Baking Tails?

Ok, so I have seen plenty about baking the headlights but I want to do the same on my tails. Has anyone heard of it or tried it? I am trying the use a heatgun instead of the oven. Any suggestions or advice?

Want to make the chrome parts black.

Just as a thought, have you considered finding the OEM LED lights from the Touring or Grand Touring instead? I'd rather do that than black them out or "bake" them.

Assuming they're similar construction to the ones on the 3 then no, you can't bake them open. The tail outer cover is actually melted around a lip on the housing itself. You could (and people have done this before) very carefully cut through the part melted around the lip and then try to glue it back on afterwards. I saw once where someone tried that but couldn't get it to look good afterwards. He bought another set of cheap tails, cut the housing off of the outer cover and was then able to pop those lenses onto his original housings.

You will have to either cut them near the seam or hot knife them like they do in Japan
I cut mine in order to refit leds into the 06 lights
