99-00 Rear Disc Brakes 4-Lug

Have you considered using the front rotors and calipers on the rear? I'm upgrading the front to es model brakes so I will try it out and see what kind of fabbing needs done. Give us updates as well please!

Have you looked at the difference in size/shape/etc of the front VS rear calipers? Of all the different reasons not to do it, the biggest one that comes to mind is you'd lose the ebrake.

Subbing to this thread as although this serves no purpose to me, I think this is an awesome project and I commend you IukekiniProtege for taking on this project :)

I was thinking that too but was giving you the benefit of the doubt thinking you'd realize it but Culridr beat you to it

I always wondered about using the Escort GT rear disc hardware on the Protege. Definitely keeping my eye on this thread.

if you have info that will help everyone share it on the forums or delete you account kthanks.

My issue was with THIS kind of comments. "close your account" and "go home"??? wth? are you like...12? dude, if i posted something and was misinformed, correct me, and be done.
on the other hand, READ what i posted before turning into a cyber thug. i said "ON MY MX-3, WE SWITCHED THE PARTS OFF ESCORTS AND THE V6 MODEL AND THEY FIT".....on the mx-3!!! i was giving ideas as to where the parts could come from, not ever did i say "oh, i grabbed parts off an mx-3 and bolted them to my 3rd gen"...did i?
in other words, maybe the disc brakes off the older protege or the escort could be made to fit here. you're fabbing stuff as it is anyway, aren't you?

So guys, after all said , is 5 lugs disc brakes direct swap to a 4 lugs drum brakes (front and rear ones)?
Thanks

yes. if you wanna go the easy way: unbolt knuckle from strut (remove the 2 bolts), unbolt from lower A-arm, disconnect brake lines AT THE STRUT, no need to do it at the caliper, you're going to use it anyway. bolt to new vehicle, bleed brakes, be done.
NOW TO THE E-THUGS: i am NOT writting him a step-by-step, i am merely giving him a guide. obviously it'll be a lil time consuming, and he will need the wheels and rotors and all that stuff. OH, AND THE E-BRAKE CABLES ARE DIFFERENT TOO! SO MAKE SURE TO GET THE ONES OFF THE DISC SETUP.
did i miss anything?

I believe this only to be true on the front. The rear also requires the use of the links off the 5 luck vehicle. Someone correct me if wrong

i was not aware that the rear-end was different. cool. now i know :)

my car its a ford laser (its the same es 00) and has rear disc brake with 4x100 pattern, those parts could work for you

lndx, are those rear discs specific to the laser or can you get the parts from another car, like another type of ford or mazda?

Used disk break swap 4lug

I owned a '99 ZX2 up until this weekend when I bought a '99ES. This link will take you to a site that sells the used pars for the disk conversion.

I used to buy alot of my parts from this guy. I'll be doing the same shortly.

highly doubtful as the spindles will not likely bolt to the protege struts and suspension arms
