6 or 5 speed?

New CX-5 that spec sheet says has 6 speed auto. So what is happening when driving along and I move the shift into manual and a 5 shows up as the current gear? Curious.....

Have you tried pulling back the shifter when you seen that 5? Bet it turns to a 6! The autobox automatically downshifts a gear when the lever is moved to manual in anticipation of you wanting to accelerate.

6th gear will only engage above 40mph or so...

When you change to Mt it will downshift one if practicable. And since 6 gear is pretty much never to high an rpm for 5 th, it goes to 5th.
