2016 CX-5 Audio upgrade thread

Are the Polk's the big winner for the new cx 5's? Infinity3002CFX ($53) and Pioneer TSA878 ($43) score high too. Anyone try anything else? What about the center speaker on the dash? Is it worth trading out?

I also need to make my own Garmin GPS holder that slides into the CD slot. I need one that holds it higher not to black the onboard screen.

Hey all! Brand new member here. I've had my 2016.5 CX-5 GT for about a month now. Looking to do the dash speaker upgrades, but have a REALLY stupid question to ask before I do - does the speaker grill/dash cover fit after the upgrade? I'm good with tearing it all apart, just need to make sure it will go back together and look the same as it does now!

Thanks in advance!

What did you decide to use? I am going to replace my dash speakers too. Polks? Infinity's? and did you find connectors?

Polk Audio DB351 3.5" coaxial speakers are the most popular ones for front dash add-on or replacement speakers in this community for CX-5. You won't go wrong with Polk. Of course you can always try othe speakers with good reviews. Usually the wires are there for CX-5 Sport but there is no adapter available for factory CX-5 speaker connectors. You just have to splice/tap/cut them. And don't bother trying to add center dash speaker as you may not have pre-laid speaker wire there for non-Bose audio system.

Sure is the most popular one.

Can anyone chime in regarding their mid range speaker upgrades (rear door/rear decks)? If they improved the mid range despite BOSE's V-shaped sound?

I don't have my cx5 yet. But it's coming soon. So obviously I haven't swapped speakers, however the research has already started lol. I'd imagine swapping the dash speakers should make a noticeable difference in clarity and tonality. Especially at high volume. Highs will definitely be louder and clearer because of the addition of tweeters. However, tweeters aimed at windshield glass can result in piercing highs. Im currently looking for a good midrange 3.5 inch woofer replacement that can play high enough to make me happy. If i cant find one, then im leaning towards Infinity REFERENCE 3022CFX. 25watt rms is perfect. High efficiency rating and good frequency range. But most important for me is the tweeter material. Textile tweeters are smooth, never harsh. Also the Bose people told me the dash speakers are getting roughly 22 watts rms. So I'd rule the pioneers out. They are rated at 15 watts rms I beleive.

Personally I found the Infinity Reference 3002CFX too harsh in the bose system, so hopefully you have better luck with those. My wife immediately said something like "why does this sound so bad". The system isn't balanced enough to counteract the added high notes. I ended up going back to the bose.

Different models. 3002 has pei tweeter. 3022 has textile tweeter. But I'm still going to put some effort into finding a woofer. I'd rather have a 3.5 inch 1way full range speaker over the 2way.

Would the speaker harness from the 6 also work on these models too? I am interested in putting in some polls, but would rather not splice wires.

Is anyone else having a hard time getting solid lower mid? I've swapped out so many speakers now. I totally get why they had a 8 in the door with the bose.

Save your money on the connectors, just coat the wires in solder until it fits in snug in the oem connector. This way you can just pull them out if you sell the car.

Ive read through this thread on the older model CX5s (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123815167-Radio-Speakers-on-CX-5-SPORT-model)
I have the 2016 with Bose system and I had purchased 2 sets of 6.5" coaxial speakers to replace the door speakers only to find that the front door speakers on my car are 9" and don't have any nice hole pattern to mount 6.5" speakers to. Misinformation like this is confusing and time consuming.

Who has installed a subwoofer in their 2016 with the stock head unit? I am trying to install a Kicker Hideaway 8" compact powered sub under the front passenger seat and found a Bose amplifier with 3 harnesses plugged into it, but no info on what the wires are. I have had a had time finding any wiring diagrams for the audio (especially for the Bose system).

Clearwater 8" Bose Miata Door Speakers 1999-2005 fit in the CX-5 front doors?

Nice find. I bet you could find a way to fit those in the doors. I just emailed them asking for specs. Looks like they make speakers for both bose and non bose systems in the miata. Only part that sucks is that it's a component set. Hefty price tag if you don't find a way to utilize the tweeter and crossover.

So those clearwater speakers come in both 4ohm(non bose) and 1ohm(bose) variants. Might be the best option for replacing the front door woofers. But pricey

Where did everyone put their power wire for their amp? Anyone use the blank spot on the OEM positive block?

Put mine on Positive post. Not block. Cheaper to replace an amp inline fuse than the stock Mazda oem block.

Personally Polk speakers have always been good to me so I was happy to use them. The specs are good and build quality is good. Infinity speakers are also pretty good, but I'm more of a Polk person.

Here are some comparison pictures of the stock bose left/right dash speaker (shown left), the stock bose center dash speaker (shown middle) and the polk db351 (shown right). The polk weighs the most obviously, the center channel bose speaker weighs slightly less, and the left/right speaker weighs 1/3 of the Polk. The bose speakers have a much smaller woofer cone too, so I wouldnt say they are truly 3.5" speakers.

I know this is an old thread but a still very relevant one. I was bored and wanted to view the front corner dash speakers (BOSE). Man the plastic grill covers are easy to remove. Took me 5 seconds. So I noticed that the two screws holding the 3.5 (or whatever they are) size speakers are the only thing in the way with removing the stock ones and popping in better aftermarket ones. Wow that easy? But then there's a catch. None of my tools can access those two screws. How the heck did you guys remove them?

Oh and second question. Would you guys say its safe to assume that the width of the screw holes are in range with standard 3.5 inch speaker basket holes? The pictures ryan posted seem to say so. Would be nice if I can remove the dash speakers so I can measure the hole cutout.
