2001 sport20 wagon

my 2001 sport20 wagon starts and then dies, but if i disconnect the MAF it starts and drives as normal except for higher fuel consumption. Any ideas??

Get a tech guy to do a diagnostic test on the ecu. That should tell you exactly what the problem is. quite possibly the MAF is bad or extremely dirty but still do a diagnostic test to find out for sure.

What rpm does it idle at when MAF is unplugged?

Try cleaning throttle body and IACV.
