Okay, so this is something I have been putting off doing for well over a year now, and since my car hit 300,000kms (186,411 miles) the other day I've been pushed more into wanting to do a complete engine swap. I have 2001 protege 1.6L, and want to put in a 2.0l. Unfortuneatly, finding second hand engines, trans and all the things I would need (I'm not 100% sure on what I would need, hence why I came here to ask the professionals) is a real pain down in Australia.
Doing some research into the 2.0L FS engine, and what other cars used it has widened my search, and I have been able to find a 2.0L engine already taken out from a GF mazda 626 (with no gearbox
) and the 5speed gearbox that come off a 1.8L in a Ford Laser.
My first question is, will these 2 match up and be completely fine to use together?
Second, will any alterations need to be made to the 626 engine?
third, will it also mean that I need to use the wiring harness and ECU from a 626, or can I still use a 2.0L protege harness and ECU?
Last, what other bits and pieces will I need to make this happen?
