I have a bad wheel bearing on my 1999 Protege and I'm going to grab a used steering knuckle assembly (as a quick fix) since I don't have a press to change it with. If this one doesn't last, at least I'll have a spare knuckle to have a new bearing pressed into without disabling the car. The problem is that the junk yard says there is an "early" and "late" 1999 model and the knuckles are different. The manufacture date is faded off my door post sticker so I have no idea which it is. Does anyone know what the difference is in the steering knuckle between them or how to tell by the VIN which month it was made?
