I remember my 2014 mazda 3 having this noise issue and was fixed under warranty with the coil spring protector. Noise was gone for a while but it did come back after about 15k miles 
I'm starting to get the noise on the cx-5 now too with 5800 miles on it.

This creaking noise doesn't do any harm, it's just the upper closed coils binding on each other as the spring is twisted. It's worse in dry weather and you can sometimes reduce it by squirting WD40 up into the strut turret. Some models have a service fix published but the dealers sometimes do it on other models at their discretion. I've found one for the CX-3 in my collection which does the same thing.........
