Car drives without key

I was a little surprised and disappointed to see this happen. Driving home from airport once I got side swiped so had to drop car off for minor repair to rear door. I was about 10 minutes away from place when I realized a blinking light on dash, it was key light. Cheeked my pockets and car could not find keys so realized that I left keys at repair facility so went back and yup they had them.

Not going to lie disappointed with this, I thought car would stop after a short while as a theft deterrent. Does anyone know if car will, keep going until shut off or is there a range where car will stop without key?

For safety reason, the car won't shut off just because it can't find the key.
Imagine you are traveling at high speed....
The car will keep going until you run out of gas.
Once it shuts off, you can't start it w/o key.

This is the same with every car with a proximity key.

But--you should have heard a "Beep-Beep; Beep-Beep; Beep-Beep" when the key left the car.
