Mazda 3 Sedan Touring
Two questions:

Does the pre-Skyactiv engine have a timing belt or chain?
Does this engine require fully synthetic oil?

Pretty sure it has chains and yes it uses fully synthetic oil that needs to be changed every 7500 miles.
 
Mazda has their own oil (although they recommend Castrol on their site) that is supposed to be a higher moly content:

chain.
match the grade (5w-30, or whatever the manual says) and you'll be fine. if you change your own oil, use synthetic for extra protection.
