If you really want to improve the sound immensely without dropping big bucks look for the "fix for Bose" thread, wherein a few crossovers transform the sound of the package for about $50 or so. And most importantly everything still looks stock.

Do you have any pics of them on the car? A 48 mm offset seems a little inboard to me for an 8" wheel.

I found it easier to just remove the sail panel between the doors and put the "cap" there, without having to remove the rear door parts at all. It's ultra easy to get in and out. Pull up the sill panels in each door opening then remove the sail panel. You can see the wiring right there.
