Car's been in storage for a year, now won't idle by itself.

Got a new battery and it works now. Didn't know that a car can't really stay running without a good battery!

    New battery too tall?

I got a replacement battery and it seems about half an inch taller than the old one. I can get the battery tie down to go over it, but just barely, and when it's tightened the tie down bracket is visibly bent. I checked with dealer and they said it is definitely the right battery, so is this...

Car's been in storage for a year, now won't idle by itself.

Hey all, I've had my 2006 Mazda6 i4 manual stored for a year and just jump started it off another car. The motor turns slowly at first but it does start and idles normally. However when I disconnect the jumper cables, the engine stalls. Anyone know what might be going on? Thanks!

Warning for those about to switch to the Tribute wiper nozzles

Ooooh, really! Thanks for telling me, I'll have to try that.

Warning for those about to switch to the Tribute wiper nozzles

I'm not so sure that the tribute nozzles really are better than the original ones. Mine never spray anything on the bottom quarter of the driver side so it's always dirty there even though the wipers go over it.

    Should my wheels turn freely?

Nah, it's not super hot. Kind of hot, but not enough to burn my finger. I guess it sounds like I should be fine then. Heh, hard to test around my place because all the roads are hills.

    Should my wheels turn freely?

Hmm that is weird. Looks like there's more than a quarter inch of pad left. When you say your wheel also has that play, do you mean that it turns freely, or it barely turns? I was under the impression that it should turn relatively freely, like maybe a full revolution when you spin it hard...

the best spark plugs to get

I used the long reach ones for a couple years with no issues, no need to change gas. Back to regular ones now, though, and to be honest I'm not sure if I even notice a difference.

    Should my wheels turn freely?

When I have the car jacked up on 1 corner and I turn the front wheel hard, it stops almost immediately. Moves for less than a quarter turn by itself. Is this normal? My gas mileage is relatively normal, maybe down 2 mpg from a couple years ago, but probably not significant. Brake pads and discs...

Protege5 - Show us your rust!

Wow, I'm glad I don't live in a place with a lot of salt. No rust I've found so far... *knock on wood*

    Gray wheels, here we go...

Looks great I'd say! A lot better than I expected. I like it more than gunmetal.

    smoother gear changes

Seconded. Easiest way to shift smoother. A short shifter will only make it stiffer.

    Simple question: yes or no?

No to black but I think a dark, metallic colour would look good. A dark gunmetal type of shade would go well with all the black trim you have on your car. There's nothing wrong with dark wheels, but you still need the curves and shape of your wheels to be apparent or they won't look substantial...

    CX-7 rims on a P5

18 inches, right? I think they'll look very very big... the wheel arches on a p5 aren't that big, I think 17's the biggest size that doesn't start to look a bit out of place.

    RDX Antenna, does it work?

Same here. Reception is no worse than stock.

anyone with a MSP shifter in their protege5?

I have the MSP shifter in my P5. Feels great. As said before, the shifter is shorter, but the throws are the same. The result is that your hand moves a shorter distance, but not drastically shorter like the TWM shifter. A weighted shift knob is essential for great feeling shifts. :-) At one...

My impressions: long-reach vs short reach plugs

I used to have long reach but on my recent change went back to short reach. Really didn't notice a difference... the car seems to have just a slightly more growly sound with the long reach when cold. The old ones looked in pretty good shape too. Gas mileage hasn't changed either.
