I have been noticing that on the 02 shift knobs I've seen in pictures that the shift pattern is just painted on and in some cases completely worn off. But on my shift knob the shift pattern is actually in the plastic piece on top, with the black paint in the pattern. Most of the paint is worn off on mine but you can still see the pattern.
