I know this doesn't help answer your question, but I had an Alpine iLX-007 stereo installed with Apple CarPlay. One of the best things is no more phone mount. All the phone info comes right up on the 7 inch screen of the stereo. I just plug my phone in and sit it in the center console.

I placed my order for an Alpine iLX-007 unit. Its a simple Carplay centered unit. No bluetooth and no HD radio and no CD player. I am willing to give those up for simple iPhone integration. It comes on Thursday and i will have it installed on Friday. Will let you know how it goes.

I know there are after market units out there. Pioneer and Kenwood makes them. Maybe some others. Price is high though. $500 and up.

I traded in my Mazda5 for a 2013 CX-5 Touring with Moonroof and Bose package two weeks ago. Have not regretted it a bit. I did love my 5 but the CX-5 just seems more fun to drive. And of course, the added safety features are a big plus - rear camera, blind spot, AWD. Thanks for the comments.

Ok. I got it now. I was misinterpreting the plug icon on the screen. It means that something is connected, not that I need to connect something. Thanks all for helping

Drove an hour and a half with iPhone 6 plugged into USB and playing music. Charge went up from 65% to 75%. Not much charge at all.

Thanks. That is not what I meant though. When I plug in my audio cable into my iPhone the AUX does not recognize it. All the screen shows is a picture of an audio cable. Shouldn't my phone connect and I can play music directly from it?

Yes, I noticed that too. The buttons on my iPhone respond right away on USB, there is a slight delay in Bluetooth.

New owner of 2013 CX-5 Touring. When I plug in an audio cable to my AUX jack, all that shows up in the infotainment screen is a picture of an audio cable. Should I be able to play music through it? If I can play music via Bluetooth and USB, is the AUX port obsolete? Thanks for any help.

I have a new 2013 Touring and I do not see a mute button on the steering wheel. Also, no play button either. This seems odd to me. I can forward or rewind my music through my steering wheel but not pause it/play it or mute it. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Thanks for all the responses. I am seeing no charge or a loss of charge using the USB with my iPhone 6 running GPS and playing music. I guess easy solution is to play music through bluetooth and use cig output to charge phone.
