who loves driving a manual transmission car?

I'm with this guy. She knows how and is about average (comparing to the general population that I do see driving stick) but I can't get my wife to give in all the way and get a manual car. Typical cyclical argument: she isn't comfortable with it because she isn't as good as me because she...

Slippage while tightening lugnuts - clutch?

Auto or manual doesn't matter. Unless you have a pre-loaded LSD (like clutch type) the wheels should turn opposite of each other pretty easily. This is because you have a differential. In 9 years you've never noticed this? If you do have a pre-loaded LSD, if the other wheel is spinning...

front strut clunk on new and warranty parts- I know where but not why

Figured it out. Take this as a reminder to everyone like me that's too smart and experienced to read the manual: I had the upper spring seat incorrectly aligned. The center is slightly angled where it meets the bearing and the angle was off causing the bearing not to see even pressure. There are...

front strut clunk on new and warranty parts- I know where but not why

You think I'm going to give that detailed and specific of a description by pulling it out of my back side? Yes I'm sure. I watched it do it while turning the wheel with the car on the lift. Yes, I have a lift in my 24x40 pole barn/garage. No it isn't the end-links. Aside from having watched it...

front strut clunk on new and warranty parts- I know where but not why

front strut clunk (solved) Here's one for the masses since my educated and experienced brain is coming up blank: My wife's car, '03 P5 auto ~100k. Replaced struts and mounts last summer. KYB gas-a-just struts, moog mounts, OE spring seats and rubbers. Has 10-15k on the parts and the left front...

    Bi-directional programmer for my 2003 Protege5?

I used the ford scanner in school. Any OBD2 scanner will also work. Any more specific of an answer requires a more specific question. Are you trying to control actuators like fans, solenoids, ABS motors, etc like is easy with a GM? sorry to say many cars aren't that open. The Japanese mfrs tend...

    rotors not flat

Clean the corrosion off. Wire brush, sandpaper, no grinding. Is it really that hard?

Metallic rattle when accelerating under load

Really? My wife's is completely noise free at 95k except a slight wheel bearing hum her dad says has been there since they got it and a dragging strut mount that isn't OE. You think a Jeeps bad, try a mid-90s GM. The whole 4 ft long center console has 2 tabs in front and 2 screws in back...

Quick question, are rear struts between P5 and sedan itnerchangeable?

Have you tried looking at part numbers? IE if parts stores have the same thing listed for both or if they list that the part fits both, then yes. just to save you the horrible effort, yes they do.

OIL filter change on my 2.0L PR5 Engine

Not unusual. Mine does it every time (Mobil1 and Wix): barely any oil will leak out when removing the filter. I don't mind since it's that much less mess to clean up. Keep in mind if it were an actual problem and you weren't getting oil circulation, the motor wouldn't last 5 minutes driving...

    Rebuilding Protege5 motor

Pretty much. that's usually a later thing to be damaged and takes less damage (the soft bearing is sacrificial). Or, since these cars are cheapish and tend to be rebuilt cheaply people don't check and/or don't care about super precision fit.

    What size bolt?

    1. clean threads. both of the bolt and the hole (wire wheel and/or thread chaser AND degreaser) 2. TORQUE WRENCH. only anti-sieze or threadlock if the factory repair manual calls for it. much more likely to threadlock than anti-sieze. I've done hundreds of brake jobs and never had one...

Does a 2003 MP5 have a cabin filter? If not, can I install one somehow?

Where's the dust FROM? when was the last time you cleaned the cowl? is the AC drain tube plugged?

    O/D Light Flashing??

could be a transmission trashing failure. lack of pressure on the clutches could cause them to slip while driving. slipping constantly does the same thing to them as it does a MT clutch....roasts it. FYI...

    Injustice : Gods Among Us

My wife got it for us. Like any fighting game it comes down to being able to press a specific sequence of buttons in order in 1/10 of a second faster than the other person. I liked it more than most games of that style (albeit I've played few enough) but wouldn't spend money on it again. Wife is...

    Main and Rod Bearing/Bushings

oversise means undersize. an oversize bearing is for a crank cut smaller. it'll probably be fine with a normal bearing but you never know. it'd be safer to cut it to the next o/s. The RIGHT thing to do is measure the actual clearance. who knows, maybe you got a bearing cut .0003 tight and...

Remote start 02 P5 anyone have a how too ?

They come with directions and the directions are sligtly different depending on the brand. Usually it ges something like: 1. damage half the interior panels getting them apart 2. cut at least 6 wires that don't need to be cut. 2b. Repair enough with but connectors to get the car to run with no...

Can turning the upper strut mounts affect toe?

It's possible to rotate the mount while the strut is assembled. probably even with it bolted to the hub. PITA but possible. I could have camber/caster order flipped, it's been 2 yrs since I got out of working on other people's crap daily. you're right that caster is either not adjustable or...
