Brake failure - totalled my MS3

Yeah, that's about how it was. Add the part about knowing I was in the air, would come to earth some time soon, and when I did it was going to hurt some more! Let me state for the record, when you hit something solid at 100+ MPH, it hurts RIGHT NOW!

Heat, huh? I think not. Think a moment about ABS repeatedly hammering directly on the inner pad 12 - 15 times per second. Then think about the caliper that has to move instantaneously in order to transfer pressure to the outer pad. Have you held one of these in your hand? They massive, as in...

I appreciate your concern, but I was using HP plus, not HPS. They performed fine - and wore reasonably well - 3.5 track days and 6,000 street miles. That said, Hawk Blue pads would have been the better choice but I do not know if they were/are available for our application.

BTW, I am parting this thing out. PM me for details.

Sorry I did not pick up on your question sooner. I did the simple push button DSC off. I was ignorant of the more complete defeat.

Just so you know I was paying attention, ABS is not defeatable, no matter what tune you play on the DSC button.

Traction control is not an issue on a road course as it might be on a drag strip. Call me lazy, but I lean heavily on ABS at the track. I know that skilled drivers can threshold brake better than ABS and I let them. For me, I like tromping on the brakes and letting the nannies figure out the...

OEM are fine for the street but the Hawk HP+ were excellent for the track. They lasted 3.5 hard track days plus about 6,000 miles. Not bad - if I had only checked the pad wear. My fault, not the pads'.

Brake failure - totalled my MS3

Good question - yes, DSC was disengaged. BTW, DSC does not effect traction control AFAIK.

Anybody need a gear shifter? (wink) I will be posting the motor/tranny on eBay soon. As well as some interior parts.

11/5/07 update. Video posted on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx-zmGm3Kj4 Shot by a RX-7 tt two cars back A bit hard to see in the distance but you get a sense of the height of the flight. The dirt berm is 6 feet high.

Brake failure - totalled my MS3

Another piece of the puzzle falls into place - The uneven brake wear I saw was most likely due to the amount of time i was in the ABS while braking hard during 4.5 track days. Every time the ABS pulses, the outer caliper moves slightly. Given how fast ABS pulses, a certain amount of energy being...

Brake failure - totalled my MS3

Nail on the head - regardless of uneven brake wear or lack of wear indicators, I drove it on the track without making sure I had enough pad - no excuses. However, I do plan to give Mazda detailed info so they can look into it and so they have the ability to see if a pattern emerges. Also, if I...

No mechanical wear indicator and no electronic pad sensor. You are right - there should be one or the other.
