Oem rack and wind noise when sunroof open
I own a 2012 Mazda5 GT and recently found a Mazda5 OEM Roof Rack that came off of a 2008 model in a classified ad for $30. The rack was missing the front left rubber foot pad, so I had to order a set of 4 from the Mazda dealership. Please note that I was told the foot pads on the 0000-8L-L09 rack cannot be purchased separately, only with the base rack itself. Fortunately, I had the older 0000-8L-L06 rack. I have a sunroof that I like to use during the spring and summer months, but my problem is that I have alot of wind noise when my sunroof is open since installing the rack. I found out that there are 4 cheap plastic pieces that come as an accessory with a new oem rack that are placed on the bars that help to eliminate the wind noice. I have tried to find these pieces separately by calling the two local dealerships, but they tell me that these pieces cannot be ordered alone. If anyone has the OEM Rack with these pieces attached, do they help with the wind noise at all? Please let me know. Yakima has a plastic part called a "wind jammer" for its round bars that is said to eliminate wind noise, so I tried the product on my square bars. It does fit the bars, but has not helped with the noise while my sunroof is open.
