The PlastiDip Thread

It'll take about 4 gallons to dip a whole car white and get a good finish.

check out dipyourcar website.
about 300 bucks to dip the whole car.

About a can will do all the trims on the rear of the trunk + valence. 2 cans if you wana do multiple layers for a better finished look

Luckily I have 2 cans. So looks like its more then enough. I wasn't able to start plasti dipping today so I'm thinking of doing it first thing tomorrow. Now I'm worried if i were to do it tomorrow, I got work the next day and apparently there's a chance of rain... does anyone know the curing process? Will I be good by Monday? Maybe I should just wait ... hmm

That looks awesome man. I can imagine how much of a hassle is it to clean it without accidentally pealing it lol

Yeah, how's washing the car?
I'm about 80% convinced that I will be doing my entire car within the next month or 2.

i think it's gonna look like you pieced the car together with body panels off a different car

I was debating on that as well. I'll start off the valence and I'll see from there. I'm not too sure yet but eventually I will also do the top and the hood.

I painted my spoiler red. Random debris started to collect especially a 6 hour road trip to Ottawa. It was such a pain to clean that off, I can imagine the entire car lol

its actually quite easy.
I'm using a 2400 psi washer and it doesn't peel off. and I am using a medium pressure end piece for the gun as well. I don't even dry the car except for the windows since it can't get water spots.

I've reduced my washtime from 1.5 hours to less than 20 minutes

Just gotta make sure you lay the dip down heavy (coat wise)
and then the corners and edges need to have a solid coat as well: (Spot spraying) the dip for those areas while it's still wet when dipping the car.

Other than that, I highly recommend the matte clear coat on top of the dip or the glossifier. Makes the cleaning process even faster and easier.

How many layers did you put on? and how many layers did you do with the clear? (I'm doing the matte)

I hate platidip so much, not because its not a good product, but because I cant ******* use it lol I have tried a few times with terrible results
I can use a spray gun, spray paint, wrap pretty much anything, but plastidip just blows my mind. Tried to plastidip the stock wheels the other day, couldnt do it.
Stopped halfway through because it looked terrible. Is the texture supposed to have like small air bubble looking holes in it? or is it supposed to be smooth...all I get is the air bubbley texture. Its weird

It's supposed to come out smooth lol... Could be 1 of 3 things your doing wrong. Either your not letting the layers dry properly between coats, your applying too much dipp cuz your technique is wrong, or the cans are cold then you are using the dip. They have to be warm to get an even finish. If not its gonna come out all blotchy n ish

I just dipped my emblems yesterday as a test since I'll be dipping my whole car when it warms up.

This stuff really is as easy to apply and peel as they say it is. But the coats do spray on really bubbly and looks like it's not adhering to the parts correctly. But it smooths out. I washed my car, then cleaned the emblems really well with some rubbing alcohol. Then masked around the area and sprayed a light first coat. I had this can in my garage about a year so when the first coat went on bubbly and spotty I thought I was farked. But after every layer after that it smooths out. The can says to wait 30mins between each coat.

I think it came out great and I'm much more confident to dip the whole car this summer.

Ok cool...i think im not waiting long enough between coats. Im very impatient so Ill have to try to wait a little extra just in case.
Ill give the stock wheels a shot again and let you guys know how it goes

Grab a cold beer in between coats! Also I dont think it works well spraying straight down, I did get a few blotchy drips the first couple layers, but stood the wheel up right on the last couple passes with good results. Keep the can level and well shaken up.

I did my stock wheels last year and there is a few spots that peeled away around the lug nuts, and edge of the rim, prob dude to new tire mounting. Ill prob be putting another couple coats on this week actually. The first few coats look like s*** till it dries a bit. The "texture" seems to flatten out a bit and I believe the next coat reacts with the dried layer, which makes it look weird till they fully cure.

I also did my side mirrors for s**** and giggles and think they look pretty good actually. I had a bit leftover in the can and did my drivers door handle as well. Seeing how that holds up for now. Also looking to do the fake carbon-fiber panel on the center console, just need the time and warm weather to stay before I get to it. Good luck!

Painted my spoiler + emblems about a year ago. Up to now it still holds. Wasn't expecting it to last this long.
