Hey all,
Just bought 2 rear struts.. Monroe. However, one has some oil on it. It doesn't look used. The other is dry. Is this normal..... Maybe just overfilled at factory or something?
Any thoughts?

Also, if these are being installed, do I need Monroe mounts or can other mounts be OK?

Thanks all
Dave

I wouldn't feel comfortable installing a new strut that is leaking.. Where did you buy them from? Oil residue is an indicator of a strut that is about to s*** the bed...

Any mount should do. Quick struts are usually a better value, but that's water under the bridge now.

So I tend to agree, but 2 mechanics I talked with said if the strut is stored on its side, it will leak a bit. And that seems to be what I am seeing....
Thoughts? I actually can't find a strut that is not covered in some amount of oil...

Clean it and stroke it (cycle the strut 10 times). If it doesn't leak any more - good to go!

(and for anyone else who wants to comment on my advice - git yer mind outta da gutter! ;) )
