2016 CX-9 - Why I think there are so many complaints about the AC - It's the windows

The windows may be a factor but they're not an excuse. When you design an A/C system (for a building, house or car) you need to consider all the factors including the space to be cooled, the outside environment and exposure to sunlight. It seems they didn't get this right.

2016 CX-9 newbie questions re: engine, 2nd row hump, transfer case

There was a lot of discussion about the 2nd row hump in this forum when interior photos first started to surface. I believe that Mazda's response was that the hump isn't any higher in the 2016 but the floor on either side is lower. I do not know if this has been confirmed.

    CX-9 Comparison Test

I think GM blew it on the re-design. Don't get me wrong. The Lambdas needed updating. But they still sold (and sell in the case of the Traverse and Enclave) based on one major competitive advantage: Size. They were roomier than anything in the class. They offered more cargo room and a third row...

    2016 Fuel Economy after 1000kms

This is the trick to getting turbo engines to be efficient. Dig into the turbo when you need it but try to dig into the boost as little as possible. If you can accelerate casually, you're getting the advantages of the smaller engine. Once the turbo spools up, you're using about as much fuel as...

2013 CX-9 horrible mpg, getting 15 mpg combined, is this normal ?

I would average over 20 from time to time but that would be with primarily highway driving. If you're stuck in town, 15 or 16 is pretty much what you get. (I had AWD. FWD may be a bit better.) I replaced my CX-9 with a Durango and now get much better mileage. Solid stop and go is more likely to...

    Spied: 2017 Mazda CX-9

The answer is simple: Car seats. Put two car seats in the back of a two row CUV and you no longer have reasonable space for even one more passenger. (Try sitting between two car seats in anything smaller than a Yukon/Tahoe and you'll know what I mean.) Another person commented that the lack of...

I haven't driven the car but none of the reviews have been critical of the steering. This is the first time I heard a criticism of the steering feel in the new car but it makes me sad. I replaced my CX-9 with a Dodge Durango and I miss the steering feel of the Mazda every time I drive the car...

I haven't driven the car and I've had a few concerns complaints leading up to the launch. I've read reviews and comments here from people who have driven the car and I'm not sure what you're talking about. By all accounts it seems that the CX-9 remains at the top of the class in terms of the...

This is great. Thanks. I was pretty critical of the hump in the new car from when I saw the first pictures. But if it's there only because they carved out additional space for the outboard passengers then there's little to complain about.

I had a 2009 CX-9 Touring AWD and have replaced it with a 2015 Durango Limited AWD. I like the Durango a lot and it handles well. But the drive is nowhere near as engaging as the CX-9 was. The Durango has a better weight distribution for sure so the ride is balanced. It is also very quiet. But...

Same initial impression from Autoblog. Concerns about getting up to speed, merging or passing with a full load. To me, it's a reasonable trade-off if the real world fuel economy is fantastic. I don't know if it is. Time will tell. It would be even more reasonable if they had a V6 option. If they...

Great analysis. Looking forward to seeing the comparison. By no means is this a deal breaker. I recently bought a Durango and it has a hump. Although the hump in the new CX-9 appears to be higher than the Durango's. This is not the biggest deal in the world. The CX-9 may be fantastic and it's...

Hard to tell. Someone's going to have to get in one of these with a tape measure. If they've actually lowered the floor to give more legroom, then I'm fine with the transmission tunnel intruding as it does in this new car. We'll see once we can see the cars compared but to me the distance from...

Wasting your time is the number one tool employed by car sales people. In many ways, it's the only tool they have. You can do about an hour of internet research and know more about any car than they do. Each dealership is selling approximately the same car you can get from the next dealership...

2nd row captains chairs as a premium feature in 3 row CUVs is one of the dopiest "premium" features out there. They really have one primary benefit and that's walk through access tot he 3rd row without sliding/folding the 2nd row or removing car seats. And they have one primary drawback and...

Great points. It's not that the concept is new. There happens to be a track record here and it's not that great. The CX-7 with the turbo 4 did not really deliver. Nor did the Explorer with the 2.0L Ecoboost (I haven't read much about the 2.3L). And it's not just about the torque numbers. It's...

I'd never try to change anyone's mind regarding vehicle safety, specifically carseat safety. But it makes you any more comfortable you can do some internet searching on LATCH vs. Seatbelt installation of carseats. You'll find that when you install a carseat properly using a seatbelt, it is just...

I want to soundproof CX 9

I traded my CX-9 for a Durango. The Durango is much quieter. Less noise from the road, wind and mechanicals. (But the CX-9 is a much more engaging drive so tradeoffs.)

I'm with you. I was talking about MY complaints not others'. And my point is that I didn't want to be entirely negative because there is good reason to be excited about this car. Personally, when I saw photos of the hump and the compromised cargo volume I chose to buy a different car rather than...

Thanks for these pictures. I usually get to the NYIAS and hope to this year but if I don't make it, I'm glad to have this thorough overview of the new CX-9. Just to weigh in on the leather and the stitching, I don't feel like the leather was a strong suit of the previous generation. It was...
