Boeing Autocross Events in St. Louis Cancelled

Well - the official word has come down from management and there will be no more events on Boeing property. They did say we are welcome to hold our events off Boeing property, but we will need to find an acceptable parking lot ( or unused runway, if that is really a possibility). If anyone has...

Soooo... my NEW WHEELS showed up today! Thoughts?

There is no amount of weight you will add with a tire and/or wheel change that will make the car unsafe. In reality, I very much doubt you will be able to even measure a difference in performance from adding 5 lbs per wheel. My summer wheels are 17 lbs each, which is a good 4 plus pounds...

Boeing Autocross Events in St. Louis Cancelled

Bad news guys. It looks like our last Boeing event may have really been our "last Boeing event"... The next event was scheduled for this coming Sunday, May 16th, and that event is now canceled as are all future events unless we regain authorization to hold events on Boeing property. Two...

    Aggressive fitment anyone?!

Yeah - if you are gonna ignore a manufactures design limits on wheel width, why would you be a bit concerned about something so stupid as load ratings!!!! And even if you did care about load ratings, do you think the tire can still perform as rated when stretched way beyond its design limits...

    Aggressive fitment anyone?!

Just a wheel and tire expert offering an opinion.

    Aggressive fitment anyone?!

Well if that is the case and you have an inch to spare on the inside, it sounds like it ought to work. But a 175/50 tire on an 8" rim? That wheel is a full 2" wider than maximum width wheel the tire is designed for. Does that not ring any caution bells for you?

    Aggressive fitment anyone?!

So the wheels you are showing here are 8" wide and 38mm offset?

    Aggressive fitment anyone?!

An 8" wide wheel with only 35mm offset is already going to stick way out. Spacers will make the poke worse, not fix it.

Help me choose between 2 tires: Hankook vs. Falken

Have you actually seen them dismount and remount the tires? The "hacks" around here will not remount a tire unless there is a significant issue found. Anyway, it sounds like you did exactly what I suggested... you had a vibration problem and you used RFB to solve the problem. Good for...

Help me choose between 2 tires: Hankook vs. Falken

Actually, Road Force Balancing is not intended to reduce the number of weights on the wheel. In fact, it may actually result in more weights being required. The purpose of RFB is to reduce vibrations that are not caused by mass balance. Those vibrations result from two sources, which the RFB...

    First Autocross this weekend

If someone has to be told to have fun, maybe they should consider a different activity for their recreational needs!

    First Autocross this weekend

Here are a few tips from someone who has been autocrossing for almost 20 years and have been a driving coach for 5 years. Pump your front tires up to 40 psi, rears at 32 psi. Make sure to walk the course as many times as possible while trying to memorize which way to head coming out of each...

Help me choose between 2 tires: Hankook vs. Falken

In my best Maxwell Smart voice - "I asked you not to complain about that chief!" Seriously, there is not that much difference between one brand and another. I have done a bunch of homework on this. There is no way any companies 180 rated tire will outlast another companies 300 rated tire if...

Help me choose between 2 tires: Hankook vs. Falken

Here is a question for you... Did your car come with Potenza RE050s on it? And if so, were you happy with the amount of grip they gave you? The RE050 tires have a tread wear rating of 140. The Hankook V12s are 280. What that means is obviously that the Hankooks are going to last longer...

Help me choose between 2 tires: Hankook vs. Falken

The Star Specs are the by far the best performing of the tires mentioned. And the cost difference should not be that much. There is a $50 rebate going on for the Star Specs right now and Discount Tires direct beats Tireracks delivered price on these tires (don't forget when checking that DTD...
