LED's are diodes, they don't care about "Voltage" it's current that they are sensitive to. Too little and they are dim, too much and they explode! I had the same experience here in Colorado. On ice and snow the Bridgestone's weren't very good. I replaced them with Perilli Scorpion Ice and Snow tire and found them to be much better.

It is not really a "monitor", it's just a fancy idiot light. A light comes on, which looks like a semi deflated tire with an ! mark in the center, when any one of your tire's pressure drops below 32psi. It would be cool if it actually displayed the pressure in each tire!
