    Goodbye Mazda family.....

I traded in the Mazda5 on Friday for a 2011 Ford F150 XLT SuperCrew with the new 5.0L V8. I had been wanting a truck for a couple of years, and the new 5.0L was very inviting. The 06 Mazda5 had 111k miles on her, but she was still in great shape and had been very taken care of very well (oil...

25+ average MPG with 104,000+ miles

25.264 to be exact. I filled up yesterday and took 9.741 gallons to travel 246.1 miles. That is mixed city/highway driving and I have over 104k miles on the car. I cruise on the highway at 74 mph and even got stuck on the freeway yesterday on the way to work. The freeway had turned into a...

    Strut replacement question

When replacing the strut, is there any other wear item that needs to be replaced? I looked at this diagram from onlinemazdaparts.com but could not make a determination...

    New Goodyear Eagle Authority

I had a leak in one of my Kumho's today and ended up ruining the tire before I realized it was low. I ran on the sidewall just long enough to eat the rubber from the inside of the sidewall and expose the steel belts. So, since TireRack was out of stock of 215/50/17s, I started looking for a...

    Unpleasant tire wear surprise!

I took the car in for a rotate/balance at Discount Tire and while at the gym got an unpleasant call saying that I needed new tires. I had just checked them and they were at 6/32". Seems that I'm having some inside wear. I got new tires, and had it taken to the shop. Seems that all wheels are...

Oil wear - Short trips vs. Extended driving

I was kind of shocked when I checked my oil after a 2,800+ mile roadtrip from Dallas/Ft Worth to Chesapeake VA and back. The oil was still transparent and relatively clean for almost 3k miles. I was expecting it to be much darker with that many miles, because I change my oil with Mobil1 5w20...

    Anyone replace rear wiper blade??

I need to replace the rear wiper blade, but can't seem to find one as small as that is on the car. It's under 12" and the smallest I can find at a local parts store is 15". I can't seem to find refill blades only, just the blade with bracket types... Anyone else run across this yet?

New Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum 215/50/17

Just ordered these tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Ecsta+LX+Platinum&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&partnum=15WR7ELX Most reviews are very good, and report a slight MPG increase. I'll post up what I find, but it's looking pretty good. I went...

2 years old and 53,000 miles later...

My little 5 just turned 2 and she's got over 53k miles on her. Except for the two issues that have been resolved by the dealer (replaced leaking power steering hose, and idler pulley), the car is still performing as new. I think I'll go ahead and change the gearbox oil at 60k miles though.

What is the stock factory offset for 06 Mazda 5 wheels?

I'm finally looking at upgrading wheels, and have looked at the "unofficial wheel fitment guide" sticky and have noticed all the different offsets, but just want to know the factory numbers. Thanks, Matt

    Tensioner bad at 48k miles

I had my 5 in the shop a couple of weeks ago. It sounded like the bearings in my alternator or A/C compressor or something was going out. They called back and said that they couldn't replicate the sound, and I told them that they had to let it set, because once it warmed up the sound went...

22 months old and out of warranty :-(

I just rolled over 50k yesterday, and it's only 22 months old... I sure hope she stays reliable... It's been in the shop twice, once for a power steering pump hose at about 38k miles, and again a couple weeks ago for a tensioner going bad...

Gas mileage goes up with new plugs???

I hit 40k miles, and figured (even though not reccommended by owner's manual) that I'd replace the plugs. I had been getting about 155 miles at 1/2 tank pretty consistently. I changed to Autolite Platinums and immediatly noted a 20 mile increase. So where I was getting 155 miles, I'm getting...

Any1 else have a leaky power steering pump?

My power steering felt like it was fighting me about 2 weeks ago, and I checked the PS fluid and it was low. It took 6 ounces. I had to put the rest of the bottle (6 more ounces) in it yesterday because the feeling had come back. I'm taking it in today to have it looked at. I'm getting...

One year and 26k miles later....

I hit my 1 year anniversary last week and have over 26k miles on the 5. It's been a very good car, the only glitch or problem has been the hiccup a couple of times during cold weather. I would rate this car highly as far as it's performance and utility. Matt

Mazda5 Tires: Issues & Replacement Recommendations

I bought some General Exclaim 215/50/17s from www.tires-easy.com and had them installed today. I figured I'd post some pics to show fitment just in case someone else was wanting to go with this size. IMHO, this is the size that should have come on the car. I forgot to look at the tach to...

    Door latch recall ???

Took the 5 in today to get the recall performed. I got it home, and I really can't tell what they did. Does anyone know if it is an internal latch that is replaced, or something that you can see with the door opened? Thanks, Matt

    Don't lose your nuts!!!!!!!!!!!

I handwashed the 5 yesterday because it was nice and sunny (and in the upper 40's). I noticed that I'd lost a lug nut on the passenger rear wheel, so today I stopped by a local Mazda dealer and got raped for a single lug nut. Try $11.53 for a single nut! I had told him that I wanted 2 (to...
