KDC-MP919 (MSP Radio) audio input question / carputer setup

Is there any way to have the KDC-MP919 take an input from another source, i.e a laptop/carputer? Or is there a way to put the output from this, into a laptop/carputer to pass through back to the speaker system?

Im looking to install a carputerish type device, but dont want to have to buy a new headunit or remove the old one to accomplish this. I wouldnt mind losing the fading options, Left to right, and front to back, etc. Could I have RCA's from the head unit connect to an 1/8 headphone jack (they have these at radio shack), which would go into the puters "mic/input" on the sound card, then have the laptop's speaker output, some how power the speakers, or is this an impossible feat since the laptop/computer wouldnt have enough power? Im just thinking up junk to get around buying a new amp and or headunit. Any suggestions...?

Discuss

Edit: whoops, i meant KDC-MP919, not the Z919. The radio in the MSP. Does that change your answer 1st?

also, crutchfield has this to say about the kds-mp919...

Auxiliary Input "Ready": When used with an optional adapter (KCA-S210A or CA-C1AX) or with the KDC-CX87 CD changer, this unit can accept input from an auxiliary source. This unit cannot accept input from an auxiliary source unless the appropriate adapter or CD changer is purchased and connected. When the CA-C1AX adapter (item 113CAC1AX) is used, you cannot connect a CD changer to the head unit because the CA-C1AX plugs into the DIN changer control connection on the head unit.

am i reading that right, that I can buy an adapter that will plug into where a cd-changer would, that will let me run an auxillary input, so i can plug a ipod/laptop/anything else i want into it?

Its KDC-MP919, yes you can just use that adapter. It makes the CD changer bus into a dual RCA plug in.

hrm ok I just answered my own question lol, but for anyone else what wondered this, here ya go.... this item http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/...0&cc=01&g=57900&id=detailed_info&i=113KCAS210

Kenwood KCA-S210A

gives you the option to add up to 2 cd changers, AND an auxillary input into any one of the listed kenwood headunits that can control a cd changer, so for anyone that wanted to go the carputer route, or ipod, or whatever, you can still keep the stock head unit.

looking through 7" in dash lcd's now to finish off my carputer :) i cant wait now. If anyone knows of a 7" lcd in dash (something that pops out of a 1din space in the dash) motorized or not, cheaper the better. Id prefer it to be all black on the outside, so it looks like the MSP's radio when its turned off. If anyone knows of anything lemme know :)

Yes the Alpine CVA-1003 is dirt cheap from crutchfield if they still have them. It was less then $600 with full warrenty!!!I think its only 6 inches though.

Nice find ********! #$^^&%#% :D

Just what I was looking for! Now I can add a Kenwood changer and us my Toshiba e740 (w/ 1gb IBM microdrive) handheld on the Aux port.

Thanks!

welcome vegas :) i was determined to find a soloution that i didnt need to get rid of my stock setup for :p im glad i asked, which prompted me to get off my ass and look lol, and thanks for 1'st help also, gave me some thinking ideas

You know, all you guys had to do is ask, I could have told you at anytime you could do an aux in.

Glad to help!

That is what he originaly mentioned the other unit is for if you have more then one device that is on that bus.

im not gonna touch it until wakey-poo can help me out hopefully.

oops time to stop crossthread posting :p

lol actually thanks dexter, i tried doing a search for that item on crutchfield but nothing came up :\ maybe i b0rked the search. anyhow thats what I would rather have, its all i need and cheaper :) *wonders if his hand can wiggle up behind the dash to plug it in*

the only thing is that adapter is kinda odd... its either that or my XBOX because when i plug it in i get buzzing, unless i ground the plugs so i have to solder some ground wires to the RCAs

NOT A ******* CHANCE!

That dash is stuffed tighter then a 40 year old porn star making a come back.

Just pull the unit out, its actualy very easy as it is a standard kenwood. You just need to keys. Basicly they are just metal strips.
