Woohoo! Autocrossers and HPDE enthusiasts sound off

I was the same way in my thought till the last event till he converted my thought process...Ive got 16 runs of videos and its easiest to compare the 1st few runs where I have the car balanced going into the slaloms compared to when ive got it tail happy going in the slaloms.

OK FAM, What pressures should I run? Fronts seem happy at 34-36 (Yoko Advan 08). Should I up the rears to 33-34? Or more?

Sorry didnt realize youre running stock tires. I couldnt get traction with them under hard accelleration...made things difficult for me...it might be harder to control the rear slide with the stock tires with as little grip as they already provide but its worth a try to see if you like it the quicker turn in...just remember you floor it when the tail end comes out and you let off the gas when you want to it to slide\turn it faster. Car should rotate at 34 in the rear i would guess on stockers.

Baited one...

My buddy Roger getting ready for his first run at his first autocross ever. He was afraid to drive his Nismo so I offered a co-drive (for recruitment purposes).

With instructor and vary fast driver next to him coaching (Roger behind the wheel). Results to come later.

PS, I saw that a Blue Fiat 500 ran in the SJR in HS. I want to go against one of those! We had an original Mini in this event but it was turbocharged.

Results: 50/81 RAW 30/81 PAX Woohoo!

Co-driver: 79/81 RAW 73/81 PAX (great for first timer in a Mazda2)

Mazda 2 autocross season is over. I will be switching to winter tires this or next week installed on stock steel wheels. I would like to do one or two TSD rallies this winter. Wish I had another throw-away 2 so I could do the Pine Barrens Express in November (sigh). PBX is an Off-road mostly TSD Rally of about 150 miles and some 4 hours of driving. Very high average speed for rough roads with CAS 20-40 dominating most sections. I wonder if any rental companies around here have Mazda 2s (wink, wink).

saw that yesterday on my local autox forum, means we can add a sway bar in stock class in the rear too I think if I read it right?...then again..after tinting (should happen soon as I have the money waiting) then my next mod are springs which will put me there.

Hi, I'm kinda new here and I am eager to meet people racing their Mazdas. Honestly, this is my first Mazda and this Mazda2 that we got (being co-sponsored by Liquimoly and Speedlab) only has a 1.3L engine (we chose this because its the only hatch that has a manual transmission available in the country). We are entering the car to compete at Circuit Showdown next year so we wanted to see how it currently measures up so we ran it last October 1 at the 8th and last round of this season. Overall, handling is great, but at the moment, it needs a bit of power to take on the straights. Some photos below:

Car was setup with:
Emotion Coilovers (dropped it to 1.75", spring rates are 8/6 kg/mm)
205/45/16 Toyo R1-R
K&N Cold Air Intake
Hotpipes Headers

Dynapack: Dynoed at just 75hp

All else was stock. We didn't push the car hard with the weather and all, I just wanted to get a feel of the car since I competed the first 7 legs of the season on a 2010 Ralliart and will be competing in the Mazda next season (at a lower bracket). We were hoping to get at least Group F here (last group) but we managed to squeeze into Group E with, 2nd on the time attack, amazingly with the rest of the 1.6L ,1.8L and 2.0L cars.

Here's a vid of the grid race, I qualified 8th on the grid, even though I went almost flat-out all the time, and bringin more speed into the corners but the other cars were simply faster on the straights and I finished 2nd to last.

For the time attack, we managed 2nd on Group E with just 2 runs at qualifying (we needed to make suspension adjustments for the grid), way better than what we expected. I was just 0.2 secs off the #1 podium. That's me car #6

Were planning to do some power mods so I wanted to post and see what you've experienced so far. My buds are telling me to just get a 1.6L engine off a Mazda3 and be done with it, any suggestions? Much appreciated. ~Uly

Awesome keep us updated in all you do really interested. Keep in mind our little 2's wheelbase makes wet racing much trickier than the comparable race cars (honda fit etc) but dry handling is awesome.

Good luck. If youre going motor swaps you have plenty of options though im not sure what will all fit and what youre legally allowed to do in your devision....but good luck none the less.

Nice!Keep racing!!!
The best thing you can do to the 1.3 is to install a gearbox from a mazda 3 1.6/1.4 with 4.388fgr.The car will be much more capable in the track and even on the road. When you don't have lots of torque,a close gear ratio helps a lot!!Keep us informed.

Thanks for the replies. @vdsracing, I sure learned a few more things from your replies - I'd take a look at that gearbox swap, pretty interesting; will surely keep you updated. Thanks again

Couldn't wait for the rest of the gear to be installed on the car but the team and I took it out for a test. From my last post, the car was virtually stock. This time, we're testing a Progressive Nitrus Kit on the car. Basically an aftermarket fuel computer controls the nitrous injection, so no need to press anything. Also took out the OMP seats and harness from my Lancer and installed it - removing all of the other "furniture" inside to shave off a few more pounds off of the car. Also was able to score an HKS Hi-power exhaust from a friend (its giving me a headache). With the new regulations in our series in March, I'm using Federal 595s here with a UTQG of 240 but will be competing with NT05s when it comes this Feb, 200 is the limit of the series for wheel to wheel.

Just gonna share some photos and a short vid of the run.
